Just thought I would clarify that "The Cosmos Rocks" is a GREAT studio l.p.!!! I'm sick of hearing stupid things about it! Of course they won't "pack it in"! There are more great studio l.p.s to come! The whole point was to keep this all going. Obviously they are going to have to start promoting these releases, doing some short promotional films (music videos), and touring the U.S. as well.

Couldn't agree more NoOneButMe. It's my personal favourite and has been since it's release. I can't believe how good this album is. The musicianship, writing, vocals, arrangement.....certainly better than I had hoped for, and I had high hopes.
TCR entered the German charts at No 4. Now after 6 or 7 weeks it's No. 43 (last week 34). Made In Heaven was No 1 for 10 weeks and stayed in the charts forever. It beat The Beatles Anthology 1 ("chart war of the dead") which was released in the same week by far.
Here in the UK it entered the album chart at number 5 and is now out of the top 100. The reason for this is the lack of promotion that was made for this release, which would of guaranteed it's staying power. The album should of been released a couple of months before the tour so the band could then promote properly with live interviews, TV appearances and above all a music video for C-Lebrity. Without any publicity then your average person won't know you have a new album out. It's not as if the regular tabloids/newspapers are going to mention it as they only concentrate on the younger pop stars that are 'in' at the moment.
At the time of Made In Heaven being released in 1995, the band had already had a hit single and anticipation was very high for this album, not just from fans, but by everyone who liked and bought music. Freddie was still very much in the public eye, even though he had been dead for four years. There was also a lot of publicity for the album which was the major factor in it's success.
Shame the same attention wasn't given to the cosmos rocks, it would of been a different story.

They obviously don't care about chart positions anymore.
At the end of the day, they (R & B) have proved that they are proper hairy-ass musicians (waiting for Brian's comments on his blog having just been called a hairy-ass muso!), that the music is in their blood and they will keep playing for the fans and themselves rather than for the money (unlike JD who was obviously in it only for the money!). Let's face it. They don't NEED the money.....

Queen have said before that they wouldn't stay together as a band if their music wasn't popular. Of course, that was during the FM era so things might have changed. However, I can't see them flogging a dead horse (if that's the way they see it) because they've never given any indication that they're doing this 'to keep this all going'. It's likely that Brian May and Roger Taylor gave up their solo careers because it was simply too much hard work having to start over again. The daily monotony of promotional efforts for little reward isn't too appealing to aging rock stars. That's why I think the success or otherwise of the album might have an influence on their future together as a band. However, it's also very possible that they see the relative success of their live concerts as the way to go, and perhaps recordings may become secondary to that. Many older bands stil exist because of the strength of their live shows, whereas their records never chart.
As for stupidity, if you could point to one great song on TCR I would take you a bit more seriously. Some Things That Glitter is very, very good but that's about it. There's a couple of very good songs, more mediocre/average songs, and 2-3 poor songs.

I was looking over chart runs for the other studio albums in the US. Virtually ever one except MIH ended up climbing the charts. I hope that TCR will follow these albums and not MIH's path.
For example:

Ok here's the the deal. When is everyone going to realize that Brian, Roger and Paul are doing this for the simple fact of pure enjoyment. They don't need to promote there album with videos or interviews on TV shows, because #1 they don't need the money and could care less how many people buy there new CD and #2 they don't wanna be bothered doing stupid music videos and meaning less interview where they get asked the same questions over and over How does it feel replacing Freddie? Talk about Bohemian Ryapsody? How did you get involved with Paul Rodgers? Christ Brian did a whole interview over here in the states with Bob and Tom and they didn't even talk about the new album and they didn't even know Brian doesn't play with a Guitar Pick? Brian and Roger especially just want to get out there and play Music Live Again. I mean seriously nobody makes Music Videos anymore because nobody plays them. Do you really think MTV OR VH-1 are going to have Queen + Paul Rodgers in there top Twenty count down of the week? Get Real!

Well... AC/DC is selling millions just based on Sony promotion. They were smart when they signed for Sony. Their last 2 album were way better than Black Ice, but nobody cared. nobody listened, nobody heard about it. This one is toping charts just because of the promotion. This is how things happen these days.

I disagree. It's down to Walmart promotion. Walmart could promote a CD of farts and people would buy it because they shove their exclusives down your throat. Go into Walmart it's AC/DC everywhere.
