What on earth would be the point? I'd only go to see Jonesy, Plant and Bonham anyway. The appeal is diminished somewhat if they have a young no-hoper trying to sing for them.

As I said, I saw Page/Plant once and it was one of the best concerts I've seen. It was almost a Led Zeppelin concert (or was it? 90% of the setlist was Zep), just under a different name, so it's not because of the original bass player or the dead drummer was missing that it should be bad (*hint*). It was good because they were good, in a very good shape and were playing their classics as they were in their good old days, without teleprompters et al.
When they started Page/Plant, they asked JPJ to join in, he said he wouldn't because of several things - including fair treatment (or the lack of it) and supposed solo projects too. The drummer they had used then was amazing (I guess he was also member of Plant's solo band). Anyone who saw the O2 concert knows that Plant isn't in a good shape anymore for Zep stuff at least, and he knows that. And you could see how bored he was while singing Stairway for the 10000000000th time.

I`ve heard the latest Plant duet with some woman-singer and i have to confess that I didn`t like his vocal at all. You must have heard it too, don`t you think that his voice is worse than it used to be? Maybe that`s the reason why he turned down the offer to join the band? Won`t be able to sing the great old Zep songs?
I'm almost sure that this is the main reason. He knows that he isn't in good shape for Zep songs, and probably doesn't want to ruin it all, singing them in new keys or something.
When I saw them (96) he was already losing the highs for good, but it was very acceptable (Freddie also had to sing things a bit differently after some time), but judging for what I heard of the O2.. it's way worse.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he's not touring as Led Zeppelin because he's busy with "some woman-singer" – or Allison Krauss, if you want to get technical – and is more focused on his solo career. Why should he turn his back on the career he's been building since Led Zeppelin disbanded anyway? He's calling the shots, he's clearly enjoying what he's doing, so why throw that all away for a glorified nostalgia trip? More power to him, really.
And I personally thought "Raising Sand" with Allison Krauss was one of the best albums released last year. Sure he can't reach the vocal power he had in his prime, but to have screeched his way through those songs, or even any of his solo songs, would've defeated the point entirely. I listened to the Led Zeppelin show from last year, and while it was initially touch and go, they really settled into a groove early on, and his vocals were still pretty decent. Considering he's nearing his 60s, his voice has held up rather well.

Porl Thompson of The Cure wasn't in the band anymore, and I think that the orchestra was a bit smaller than what was in the DVD, not sure, but everything else was the same. If I can remember well the bass player also had some resemblance with JPJ in the earlier days... at least from where I was.

This reunion gig was more like a tribute to the Atlantic guy than actually a reunion, and I guess Plant was upset with all the fuss and hype and talks about a bigger tour.
