Maybe I've been coincidentally drunk on every occasion that I've watched stuff from the O2 gig. He sounded fine to me. I think people are remembering his voice through Joplin-coloured hearing aids, to be honest. His voice did change in the 70's, doesn't anyone remember this? It's been a very long time since he sounded like the bloke that recorded Heartbreaker or Whole Lotta Love.
Again, I've probably been drunk all this time because I actually liked the change in his voice! Hehe. But I also like Ted Neeley, and I've been told he sounds like cats screeching and God only knows what else.... meh. Anyway. I hope Page breaks his hand again or something. What I'd really like is for them to pick a good singer but it won't happen. They'll either pick an established friend who just .... sucks.... or they'll go with a young guy who'll suck just as hard. So I'm hoping for a hand fracture.

What surprises me is that John Paul Jones is now involved. I always thought that after the debacle of Page/Plant in the mid 90s (well, with him being ignored for inclusion) that he was more determined to work on his solo stuff than to work with his former band members. Evidently, things have been patched up, but I was more interested in hearing another solo album than him touring as part of a bastardized Led Zeppelin. Ah well.
And I agree with you Zeb ... Plant's voice got less screechy as time went on, due to a throat operation at some point in the late 70s. It's evident on the In Through The Out Door album, which ranks as one of my favorite Led Zep albums. (Don't shoot me!)

Ha! You shall suffer no bullets from I, it's a fine album. To this day I don't understand a WORD of what he says on Carouselambra, but I've deliberately avoided looking up the lyrics. I just like the tune I guess.
Some singers have never changed their voices (noticeable changes, at least), although they aren't "singers", like Paul McCartney (which is near his 70's), Dave Gilmour... and some have changed just a little - Jagger. In these 96 concerts (12 years is a long time), there were occasional "peaks" where he couldnt reach the right notes at certain songs, but overall it was very close to the "original source", as I said in his previous concert of 94 it wasn't like that - maybe a rest before the 96 concerts is what made it sound better?
