RIP
Billy Powell
fine Keyboard player of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
His licks on Sweet Home Alabama are timeless.
I met him at their inauguration to the USA Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame in New York, three years ago.
Sad he has left us.
Rock on Billy.

I doubt it. Lynyrd Skynyrd was never big outside the (southern) US. Them playing in Scandinavia sounds a bit fishy. They were a bunch of racist redneck fucks. They "proudly" displayed the confederate flag during their concerts. Bunch of assholes if you ask me.
I think their music sucks too. As the dude from Green Day said, "I fucking hate Lynyrd Skynyrd!"

Roger stated in an interview once that he hated the band also.

Come on, you guys are being terribly harsh.
Truth is, of course, that their plane couldn't hit the ground hard enough.

RIP? I'll miss him as much as any other Klansman who can play a scale.

A lot of their ignorant fans don't know how racist they were...
"In Birmingham, they love the governor
Now we all did what we could do.
Now Watergate does not bother me.
Does your conscience bother you? ..."
If that alone doesn't prove they're fucking rednecks, I don't know what does. The governor at the time was segregationist George Wallace. Dumbass Skynyrd freaks are quick to point out the barely audible "boo boo boo" after the first line I quoted but the "boo boo boo" barely sounds disapproving, IMO.

I never liked them based on their music. This thread gave me another reason to dislike them. -.-

There must be some truth in my story... Darren1977 recalls an interview with Roger...

They opened for Queen on these dates:
23 November 1974 - Koncerthus, Gothenburg, Sweden
05 December 1974 - Musikhalle, Hamburg, Germany

Thx Erin... With your help i could come further...
Roger Taylor: (supposed in MOJO magazine)
"They were awful. They were Southern rednecks and they could not
believe it when they saw us four caked in make-up and dressed like
women. They were outraged, confused and a little frightened, because
the four nancy boys were giving them quite a run for their money
on-stage ... God, Lynyrd Skynyrd! They were arseholes, frankly. When
they played that song 'Free Bird' it seemed to go for months. As I
remember they had three lead guitarists. Hmmm, well we only seemed to
need one. Absolute arseholes. Later on they had that terrible fatal
plane crash, didn't they? Shouldn't speak ill of the dead ... bollocks
to that!"
Maybe they didnt speak, but Brian did see Billy in 1974!:)
Brian is getting older... luckely i am not;)

It means you're Peter Pan?
Btw, I agree with the general vibe here: I'm not happy he's dead (couldn't care less, to be honest), but I don't regard him as a great musician. A good one, maybe, a great one, no. Rick Wright was a much greater loss for music IMO.

I fucking HATE Lynyrd Skynyrd. A terrible band full of terrible people.

I, um, grew up in Jacksonville, went to school with the current lead singer's kid, and met them a couple of times after their performances at the Free Bird Cafe (a bar/venue they own out there). Can't say anything for the original guys beyond may they rest in peace, but the current incarnation of the band is a nice bunch of guys. Rowdy, yeah, but nice.
And their music isn't half bad either. Yes, you are allowed to like both Skynyrd and Queen, even if the two bands more or less can't stand each other.

HOLY SHIT. I feel like an asshole for laughing at that comment. Why must you reach my dark, cynical humor Zebonka?
I don't have anything personal against Skynyrd, I have a couple of their albums. They don't hold a candle to Queen in terms of talent, and in essence they are a very different band. But they are good Southern Rock.

I don't like their music. But the actual truth is that they made a name for themselves in the music industry, regardless of what you envision their beliefs to be, while you live with your mom and post on Queenzone. Walk proud!!!
