Why do people even mention Sun City? It was a good thing that some bands in the west played for both black and white back then, instead of just give a damn! Did they say NO if some black people wanted to go to the concert? NO!

And yes, most of the southern people have conservative and at some point racists meanings. And I dont only referering to black people, but maybe even more GAY people, like Mercury himself!

And isn't this a QUEENsite? Where do all the idiots who support Lynyrd Skynyrd coming from really? Its a kind of ironic that people are on this site, and spreading shit bout Queen!

O.K., that really wasn't very coherent. "most of the southern people have conservative and at some point racist meanings" - WTF!?

Anyway, the part in bold was funny. Lynyrd Skynyrd sucks. They coulda been contenders, they coulda been somebodies, but they ain't nothin' but bums, which is what they are.

By the by, there's nothing wrong with being a Southerner, being Republican OR being conservative. But there is something wrong with you if you're a "good ol' boy", if you know what I mean.

I don't know much about Lynyrd Skynyrd beyond hearing 'Sweet Home Alabama' a few times, so I won't comment on whether they are racist. But am I the only one who takes it as a compliment at Queen's music getting called 'pretentious, overblown, aristocratic British rock'? [/img]

You completely misunderstood me.
Good ol' boy = racist, typical "Suth'ner" white trash
I was talking about Lynyrd Skynyrd fans, most of whom are Good Ol' Boys

The beauty of life is people grow wiser as they get older.  I personally don't like Skynyrd, there's a few songs I like, Tuesday's Gone come to mind.  While Roger is the more outspoken of the two, Brian is always the gentleman.  It could be that when Skynyrd were inducted to the RRHF, they made amends.  They could have let bygones be bygones and became good friends.  Brian did post he was giving members of Skynard update versions of BHM guitars a few months ago.

I wasn't aware one could be awarded a guitar posthumously.

Then again, you know you're in Heaven when Brian's sending you free shit ... !

I don't much care for their music but having heard it on the radio constantly when I was young I can see why it was popular at the time. They were capable musicians who were successful beyond Southern Rock and at least on that level I can have a begrudging respect.
As far as prejudices. I see as much from people assuming that people from the Southern USA are rednecks, good ol' boys, klansmen etc. as that presumed about the members of Skynyrd.
Unless you were in the room when so called "events" took place or knew Skynyrd personally you don't have much to base an opinion on.
And one more thing from those who wish to put down Americans and accuse them of being intolerant, I've traveled a great deal in my life and I've seen intolerance from every nationality. Some rivaling what Southerners are supposedly capable of.
There's no excuse IMO for bigotry but until you can look in the mirror and say you've done your part to eradicate racism and intolerance from the planet and fostered a climate of good will you have no business pointing fingers.

There's a current, or was a line up of Lynyrd Skynyrd that has toured the US pretty much every other summer since 1987. They last toured the US last year. There's a high probability the current line up will find a replacement for Powell and tour in '09. They were working on a new album.

I have a smiley face on the back of my car.  Any bigot who sees that is sure to melt into a warm fuzzy pile of niceness.  I've done my duty!

PS.  I'd like to amend one of my previous posts (wherein I claim that the Skynrd plane 'couldn't hit the ground hard enough') and state that I didn't say this because I think they're a bunch of racists.
I said this because I hate their freaking music, and just when I couldn't hate it anymore their most popular song got fed through the Kid Rock-inator and went around the world a second time.

Like any of us needed to hear that shit song ever again...

You completely misunderstood him BTW... he's fucking agreeing with you! lol

I don't know much about LS, only the hits... which are ok, not a patch on Queen. I do agree with PMAs point that a lot of folk here do just jump on the band wagon. There friend says this, let's back him up. Maybe you should do a little research beyond a quote of Roger Taylor from the early 70s. Maybe they were "rednecks", "racist"... me personally, I don't know so I'm not gonna call them that without justification, which is what I think a lot of folk have done here based on Roger's quote solely.

Without being argumentative, maybe read PMAs post closely then do a little research, then see what you feel. Don't just jump onto wiki either. Labelling someone "racist" without looking into it past a quote from you're favourite band's drummer is a little unfair is it not?

Quite funny that a lot of people with such strong views on LS are either teens or a little older than so... wish I had all that wisdom at such an early age.

Take time and read both sides of an argument before becoming so adamant you're right.

You're my favorite Zoner, Zebo. Love your posts.

As I said before, I don't like their music either. Actually, their drummer was a child molester, so racist is an upgrade!

As an American, I remember very vividly when FM radio was dominated by Skynyrd and other "dumb rock" bands like Bad Company (yes, that Bad Company} and it bored the hell out me. I bought Live Killers on a gamble, and I never heard music the same way again.

Come on, you guys are being terribly harsh.

Truth is, of course, that their plane couldn't hit the ground hard enough.

I don't like their music. But the actual truth is that they made a name for themselves in the music industry, regardless of what you envision their beliefs to be, while you live with your mom and post on Queenzone. Walk proud!!!

Shut the hell up, you're obviously an idiot and it has nothing to do with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

What has nothing to do with Skynyrd, Einstein? Don't get your panties in a wad over a joke.
