Just look at Brian and Roger faces at the beggining of that interview one week after Freddie´s passing... and you´ll get the answer.

Not a single succesfull band is a collection of friends (anymore).
A succesfull band is a business consisting of collegues and the members treat eachother accordingly.

Of course to the outside world you make believe that you are the greatest of friends. Friendly people sell more records. But as soon as a recordcompany comes into the picture it is goodbye friendship, welcome business.
A band that refuses to give that up will not stay succesfull for more then a year.

Which does not mean that collegues can NOT be or stay friends in a way.

And about Roger and Brian's faces... if you have been working with someone every day for the majority of your adult life - even if you don't specifically like the person - it has an impact.

I agree, I think their "friendship" kinda dissolved after getting signed to their label. Before that, I think they were great friends, they went through a lot together as far as I know. I always loved hearing the stories of Freddie and Roger selling clothes on the mean streets of London. Reminded me a lot of Midnight Cowboy. But success divided them. They sure as hell got along in the studio but I remember reading somewhere that Freddie had little contact with "the boys" outside the studio(except John).

One more thing about the interview- I know I'll get a lot of flak from die-hards for this, but - they could've been faking it. Public relations, you know. Brian always seems like he's going to cry during interviews, so I don't know.

But it always cracks me up when some random QZ loony claims that Freddie and Brian were "like brothers". Haha...

LOL - I see what you mean (and I am a die-hard myself by the way).
Brian is such a great actor. (NOT!)
On the BTTL tour he 'cried' every night during Too Much Love...
On the two QPR tours he 'cried' every night during LOML...

All part of the SHOW - the majority of the fans truly believe that they are seeing real tears...

He wants the Show To Go On and isn't averse to faking tears for it. Brian has probably faked as many tears in concert as he has faked orgasms with his first wife.

For what I've read, at least Freddie and Roger were close friends.  Not just before they got a contract - when it seems they went everywhere together.  Didn't they even live together?.  Jim Hutton does say in his book that they kept talking and giggling and that they were obiously close friends.

My opinion about Brian is... that he is a good business man... a great actor... I mean... he wrote The Show Must Go On... What a stupid idea... to let Freddie sing this hard words... in fact the he was going to die... (I´ll soon be turning... right the corner now...) Oh Dear... Look a Queen Rocks... Brian May songs... Money can´t buy happiness...

But John was Freddies best friend in my eyes... A close friend who does NOT need the stage to perform or the cameras to cry...

John is a great buddy... believe me!

Jim Hutton actually said that Roger and Freddie were quite obviously soul mates!

Freddie and Roger were friends well before Queen. There are all the stories popping up in Queen books about Roger selling Freddie's own coat a few times at their famous stall.

Now,  money and the stress of showbiz change people, so who can tell how they felt at which point of their lives. They certainly had arguments and periods of not working together. But then, I don't believe bands can survive if the members don't respect one another, money or no money. Take Pink Floyd for example - they split despite money and fame that staying together would have brought them.

God.  Despite the fact that I've seen this attitude before in forums - so called fans saying extremely awful things
about people they supposedly like... - I still feel shocked to read something like that.  Why assume such intentions on the part of Brian and Roger?.  They've never done anything to support your opinions about them.
I mean, they lost someone they had known, worked closely with and were quite probably friends with... they saw him deteriorate for a long time... it is a very sad and draining thing... and to say that, just one week afterwards, they were faking their sadness, and that Brian fakes it now on stage... please.

I don't think he cried before playing that song here, by the way.  He even made a joke before.  In Spanish.  It was very moving, though.

They were bound to have heated discussions are bitter rows whilst writing, recording and producing albums but that doesn't mean they couldn't have been 'friends' away from it all.  Being friends doesn't mean that they had to be in each other's pockets.  As far as Freddie & Roger go, I believe their friendship was always strong - you only have to watch the way they looked at each other sometimes during performances to realise that (both early and late performances) I can't say about John & Brian.
