Let me put it this way... Creativity, innovation, and originality doesn't always equals greatness.

While U2 was able to successfully re-invent their sound on 'Achtung Baby', I feel like they went a bit too far with 'Zooropa' as far experimentation goes. The record just lacked soul and emotion, and those falsettos by Bono are incredibly annoying to listen to. Bono, has quite a good voice, but seriously he sounds horrible hitting high notes. I personally dread this period of U2 when Bono was way too much into theatrics, and his Mecphisto alter-ego. It was just obnoxious.

I, too, don't get the fuss about The Joshua Tree. I prefer Boy, Achtung Baby and ATYCLB. And I think the new album is their best one since Achtung Baby.

Personally I think 'The Joshua Tree' is excessively overrated.
All U2 did was having 3 massive hit singles, and the rest of the album are experimentations with blues and U2 songs that sound rather bland compared to their previous work.

Why did it create so much hype is beyond me.

never agreed with you more :-]
once you get past the 3rd song the album just ebbs out,it hasnt lasted the sands of time either, had a listen to it the other day and the album sounds very dated now [even the hits].

am i the only one who thinks that Zooropa was their best album and Numb their best song? that was when they were at their creative best as far as im concerned...

I love Zooropa. Great music to shag to.
