I take Lorazepam 1mg (four times a day), Effexor 250mg (once a day), and Ritalin 5mg (three times a day). I haven't drank any yummy alcohol beverages for like two fucking years! I've got a craving lately, but I'm not a drunk. I just want some alcohol drinks.

Anyone know much about this kind of thing? Someone here must be a doctor or nurse or CNA/LNA. I'd ask Jessica, but she'd tell me to discuss it with my doctor or not to drink. I don't want to make an appointment just to have a bottle of beer.

I'd like some honest answers on why it's not good to take these medications while drinking. As far as I'm concerned, it'd just make the medications a bit stronger, but there's of course a medical reacation that can occur. Someone must have some experience.

Not only have I designed medical books, but I've also taken a lot of medication over the past few years, and I can honestly say that not only is it okay to mix alcoholic beverages with those meds, but it's also recommended that you take a handful, gulp a bottle of Jack, and then go out for a long drive with your foot clamped down nice and hard on the gas pedal.

Oh sure, you COULD look at the instructions for the medication you have, or if your doctor wasn't just some 15 year old pusher at the local high school and could have actually told you whether or not you could mix alcohol with medications, but what would a label know, anyway? Just ignore all those warnings that say "Do not mix alcohol with medication". Or even common sense, for that matter!

Have fun!!!

It's totally safe if you gargle the alcohol first before swallowing. Then follow Lester's instructions and everything should work out fine. [/img]

Alcohol will intensify any side effects that you may experience with these meds (such as drowsiness, dizziness, etc.). I assume you are taking Lorazepam for anxiety and Effexor for depression. Well, alcohol is a depressant in and of itself. If you are a depressed person, it is never good to drink in access. It will only make the problem worse. If you wanted to to enjoy an occasional drink, as in ONE glass of wine, ONE beer, ONE mixed drink, etc)  it probably would not hurt you. But, I would do it the first time at home, so you won't be driving, etc until you see how you react.  Everyone is different. I would still phone the doctor. He/she can tell you what is right for you. Tell the receptionist that you have a question for the doctor concerning your medication. My doctor is always happy to telephone me back. I am sure yours would too.

In Jake's case, I recommend that he not only ingest alcohol with these meds, but also that he ingests drain cleaner and snorts detergent.

Three drugs that affect brain chemistry, and you want to add a fourth?  ... Go ahead, if you want to risk more anxiety attacks, or another bout of clinical depression.
