What are some of the drum sets that Roger Taylor Used

I'm curious, about the drum sets Roger Taylor Used. His drum set during The Works Tour and The Magic Tour sounded awesome, especially the electronic drum kit attachments of the drum set during The Works Tour.
I'm watching Queen Live In Wembley Stadium right now. The drums He used for that gig were awesome. However the Drum Set from Knebworth is my favorite sounding Drum Set. Does anybody know what the names or models of the drum sets from The Works Tour and the Magic Tour were?

I wouldn't put it past them to not know about that. I think QueenConcerts is more known for the concert info it provides (setlists, recordings, etc) rather than the equally excellent technical info it also provides.

I know it's a case of personal preference, but I can't believe that you prefer the drum sound on the Works tour to all others!  I think (certainly this view is shared by most musicians I know) that the Works tour drum sound is the worst live sound that Roger had, certainly on the recordings available that we've heard.

Just off the top of my head the Works kit was a Ludwig chrome finish (but I don't know the exact model), and the Magic tour kit was Yamaha (possibly stage or recording 9000 custom).  As others have pointed out, the queenconcerts.com site will surely provide the info you need.

The best live drum sound I think was at the Bejart ballet performance of TSMGO i paris 1997.
Awesome powerful sound. Ludwig kit there too probably.

He used paint tins on the 84 shows.  Some of them had triggers for e-drums.

i like his 2005-2008 drum sound the best.

Think that was the Sleishman kit though wasn't it?

The best drum sound for Roger was early 70s definately (in my opinion)

The Works kit was a Maple classic Ludwig set in chrome finish, pretty much the same as he had always used over the years, just a different finish, the sizes were slight smaller in some cases than the good old days of the 70's but it's basically the same kit, just a new version

The magic tour was a Yamaha 9000 series

Of the two kits Roger used the chrome one for recording as well as touring for some time, it's on the one vision video and he used it for a number of other projects including rehearsing for a tour with Robert Plant (which never happend)
The Yamaha kit never came out again after the tour and he moved quickly back to Ludwig with the maple finish version seen on the Freddie tribute and used to record most of Queens final moments on record

As for sound quality, heads and mic choice and placement play a big part, check out the crappy sound of the Rock in Rio gig then compare it to The Miracle album say or Hot Space, its all the same kit, yet they all sound different.

Personally I think his best sound is a between ANATO and Cosmos, You're My Best Friend has the best sounding toms ever recorded IMO, and Cosmos plus the last tour was just great (from a drummers POV)

I love the tom sounds on A Day At The Races, and also the later 'roomier' toms on Spread Your Wings, It's Late and Headlong.

For a whole kit sound - the blend of hi hats, kick, snare and toms, and cymbals, you have to go a long way to beat Was It All Worth It (especially on the latest Japanese masters), in my opinion!

That was probably the chrome kit as well

Will have to have another listen, I often found the sound of the later albums had the drums too low in the mix, and the tighter feel with less depth didn't do it for me.

Listened to Great King Rat the other day and was amazed how good that sounded fro all those years ago

Yes I think so too! The drumsound on cosmos rocks is just amazing, when I listened to the album for the first time, and the drums came in in "cosmos rockin' " it totaly blew me away


I Think the sound on innuendo was great to, although the mastering seems to be a bit week on that one;)
