Thanks guys, this is all good info and I'll reply to each query.

Want to add the 1992-reissue of Who Wants To Live Forever to this too. It went no.7 in the Netherlands, according to Wikipedia. Again, not sure about the position but again it WAS a hit.

We are not including ANY of the re-issue singles in these box sets at all if they have already been released, even though this one was quite a big hit and a completely different issue to the 1986 singles.

Thanks very much Dragon,

You said about the PRINCES info I was after:

GT, In terms of proof - what sort of evidence do you need to have enough weight to argue that it should be included in the boxsets?

I've asked the guy who posted the chart placings under the forum link above if he can provide a scan of the chart or at least a reference to the source of his information.

I've also asked the researcher at the State Library of Victoria if they can send me a scan of the chart / their source - assuming they can comfirm that it reached the Top 40.

That was just the info we have been after and wish we had the same genuine info for all the releases that we don't have chart placing's for.
We'll do our best to include this on box 3, but the end decision is with the band.

Ha Ha... yeah.. thanks dragon for spending hours of dead ends and dead links finding out about the Kent Report and subsequently that Australian chart forum. Nice work ha ha.

Yes, VB9. I agree you should be the one credited with finding the answer, as it was your post on the australian chart forum that got the answer we were looking for

I just did a few google searches and sent an email to a librarian.

Anyway, like yourself I just wanted to try and give it the best chance of being included in box set.

GT, VB9,

I got a respopnse from the guy at the State Library of Victoria today. He confirmed the same information that VB9 got from the guy on the australian charts forum. Ie. that it got to number 32. In fact he confirmed it from both the Kent Report and the Australian version of Rolling Stone Magazine.

The Librarians full response is below :

[i]I am a librarian from the State Library of Victoria, and I am responding to your question relating to the Australian chart position of the Queen single entitled 'Princes of the universe'. According to page 243 of the Australian chart book (1970-1992), compiled by David Kent...

http://catalogue.slv.vic.gov.au/vwebv/holdingsInfo?bibId=816...etc

...which sources it's information from the Kent Report, the single did indeed hit a high-point of number 32, and sat in the charts for 10 weeks after being released on 18 August, 1986. I was also able to back up this position in the October issue of the Australian 'Rolling Stone'.

I hope that this satisfies your query.

Sincerely,

John Stevens
Librarian
Arts Team

The above info along with my original question can also be viewed on their website under this link :

Hopefully this along with VB9's info can help convince everyone that it should be included in singles box 3.

Question for GT:

any more news on whether the WWRY/WATC live single from Live at Wembley did reach top 40 anywhere, and will therefore feature??

Cheers

Although we have all the stuff it's great to "finally" have A Human Body and Soul Brother in CD quality
Soul Brother was already available in CD quality, though, on the UK 3" cd single and the US Heaven For Everyone cd single. ;-)
I bought the US Heaven For Everyone cd single just for Soul Brother!

It did reach no 12 , if I'm right, in the Netherlands. See my earlier post.

I guess this would be classed as a re-issue though - see GT's earlier post.

Definitely shouldn't count as a reissue (in my opinion) - these were standalone, first time live versions of these tracks, released as singles to promote an album.

The reissue debate I believe relates to studio tracks (ie WWRY/WATC/WWTLF) where those exact studio versions had been released studio versions had been released before, but just with different packaging.

Would be interesting to get an 'official' view from GT please?

Cheers

Ah ok, I suppose your right, this particular case is no different to the LOML single. I guess GT does not want to give too much away in order to keep a few small surprises back, given that the majority of the boxes content is very easily guessable. I only hope that there is room in the boxes for all of these. Personally I would rather get all the alternate (non-UK) AKOM singles with intresting covers, than the WWRY/WATC live single if there is not room for all of them. But that's just my preference.

I think Volume 3 has the most potential of all the boxes in terms of interesting sleeves when you consider what options are available out there for the singles released between end of 84 and 89.

Just thought I would add a photo of the reverse sleeves for the CD singles as I know there are some people out there who would like to see them.
Not a good photo, but you can see what they look like.

Thanks guys (cmsdrums / Dragon) for the questions.

It looks like that the ONLY single not to make the box sets will be the live single of 'WATC / WWRY', it just won't fit into the fourth box at all.
Yes this was a legitimate single, the only one released from the 'Live At Wembley '86' album issued in Europe in 1992. It did reach number 12 in the charts in Holland...BUT...there is just no room for it.

Ermmm - make the box a little bit bigger?!?!

This does unfortunately make it seem as if bad planning has been present since the inception here - my mind sees the conversation between archivists, band and QPL along the lines of:-

"Right, we'll have four box sets, all exactly the same size, each one taking, lets say, at 13 CDs"

"OK matey, I'll go and get the outer boxes all made up now well in advance so that we can just fill em up and ship em out when the labels are printed on"

"Great idea"

Several months later.....

"Ermmm, we've actually done some research now and it seems that there should be 14 singles in the next one"

"Shit, but I've already made the boxes up - 40,000 of the little fuckers"

"Oh arse - never mind, the general public that this is aimed at won't care if it doesn't actually carry every worldwide top 40 single that the whole marketing angle sold it as"

I swear to buy all their future box sets up to Singles Collection XXXIV if they'll ban to use Las Palabras De Amor cover by any human. It is as awful as Freddie's photo from The Game.
