I can't believe that the topic of 10 reasons to HATE Queen is on this website...I will be the first to admit that some of their music was cheesy, but who's wasn't at one time or another... right??? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when I come to MY FAVORITE bands website, it irks me a bit to see negativity. Does anyone agree?

Not quite. I find the topic quite amusing actually. It helps to provoke interesting discussion.

Nah, don't agree at all. Don't take your music - particularly your favorite bands - so seriously. It's all a bit of fun.
I agreed with half of them, btw. But his case for dissing the Live Aid performance was so weak, it was ridiculous.
I would add the bands stepford fans to the list.

I only posted the article to have fun with it, you can't take every critic seriously.... everyone is entitled to there opinion....and in honestly, Queen is just another band! They were great, I'm a huge, diehard fan, but when it comes down to it, they created music to make money, and make money they did, and still do... so God Bless them, but like every groups official site, fans websites or tributes, you have to show the good with the bad, not just the good.....Lord no's I've stuck up for them in the heydays, but it was all in fun.....just enjoy the music and meet people who all show a interest in the same thing......bottom line, HAVE FUN......Lifes 2 short....
Had to agree with the author on these though...
3 They broke the Sun City boycott
5 They reformed without Freddie Mercury
cheers......

And *why* would you bother starting a topic about this? I also find it highly disturbing that you evidently do not accept critical sounds about "your favorite band" on this website(1). This is a trait referred to in fan-lingo as "stepfordism".

Hear hear.
You must have a tough life then, seeing you're unable to cope with negativity and all.

Another wanna be trying to greate attention for themselves as they probably have a shit job like permming old peoples hair. I really pity the person who slags off a group of British musicians of the standard of Queen. They obviously just dislike the music but don't have the intelligence to be constructive or objective. U2..... Ha!!!! ?

who's slagging them off....?
ten reasons to hate queen could be quite objective....if everyone listed the same dozen or so reasons then there wouldn;t be many...which would by default mean they are ok/inoffensive
great and good bands do not please everyone all the time....as a long-time queen fan of 35 years i can easily make the list of ten...quite realistically more
sun city
AKOM (album)
Hot Space
Cosmos Rocks
John Deacon's writing (80-91)
5ive collaboration
pepsi advert
wwry musical
brian's whiny vocals - esp on leaving home ain't easy and someday one day
not releasing what true fans really want - anthologies
allowing pricks like GB to represent queen

You were obviously born in a pixie and unicorn world. You act like they were sacred.
Every band has its flaws. Queen as well. Heck, they did some mediocre things in the past which are worth discussing now and then.

yea, no one saying Queen didn't have flaws, but to say it's discussed now and then?...I'v read more negativity on this site about Queen than I ever read in the rollin stone or anywhere else. Many on this site have said queen have never released a truly great album. Amazing to read these things on a queen website.

no, i do not have a rough life, and yes i can take negativity, my point is there is always a good bit of negativity on this website...I love Queen, I have some issues with some things that have been done. For example, them letting 5ive redo we will rock you, the whole pepsi thing with fuckin beyonce and pink...the whole musical thing just mystifies me. I have not said queen was perfect, or anything like that. I was very much skeptical about the whole PR thing, but having gone to a show, I walked out of there with respect for him even trying. I think that they waited a good long while before going back out as queen, and freddie was up on the monitor alot so it wasn't like reformed and said fuck freddie. I never understood why people got so offended by them doing the PR thing. I understand that some may feel it was a money grab, the thought crossed my mind at first, but then I just decided to check it out and keep an open mind, but i see that isn't acceptable here. When i posted this in the GENERAL DISCUSSION area, it was just a question. So, sorry if I offended some, just wanted to see how anyone else felt.

I think brians voice is ok on those songs, but I do think it was a mistake for brian and roger to sing so many songs when you have freddie mercury fronting your band. Prime Jive is another example. the intro sounds great with freddie, but roger's voice kills it for me. Just my opinion of course. some of this list is unfair, like 5ive and even the cosmos rocks, which were mistakes, but wasn't the real queen. Anthologies?...i get sick thinking about it. Are we ever going to see these sets?....I personally enjoy hot space as a whole, but commercially I can't argue it was a mistake. The bottom line, my 3 mistakes the real queen made were hot space (especially in america). sun city, and brian and roger choosing to sing a lot of their own songs.

I love Brian's voice, and I appreciate most of the songs on which he sings lead vocals. Those that I don't aren't IMO all that great anyway. Someday One Day is IMO a poor man's version of '39. I don't think it would have been dramatically improved if Freddie sang it. I do however agree about Roger's singing so many songs being a mistake. A talented vocalist, I love his contributions on songs like TMOTBQ, Let Me Live and No-One But You, but generally speaking the songs in which Roger sings lead vocals (Fight From The Inside and 1 or two other songs excepted) are among my least favourite songs on the respective albums. On ANATO, for example, the two songs I listen to the least are I'm In Love With My Car, and Sweet Lady. If Freddie had sang IILWMC, I think it could have been improved. However it's not a major mistake.
Regarding HS and AKOM, I don't think either are mistakes. I like all of Queen's albums, and those two aren't even my least favourite albums. Yes, HS was a commercial mistake, but artistically I have no problem with it, and that's all that matters to me. Plus, even commercially, Queen returned bigger than ever.
Considering that, post-1980 John wrote AOBTD and IWTBF and that he contributed to MIH (one of my favourite albums) I don't consider his writing to be a mistake. If anything I think that John, my third favourite writer, should have written more.
I actually liked the Pepsi commercial, so for me it wasn't a mistake. I thought it was fun and I loved that it featured WWRY.
The collaboration with 5ive wasn't wonderful, but I thought that Brian's performance was really good, and I always appreciate him and Roger showing groups like 5ive how to really rock! That said, while it is unlikely to be go down in history, I think it's alot better than the remix of AOBTD with Wyclef Jean.
It would be great if they released anthologies, but I don't think it's a major mistake. Those that care already love Queen, and are unlikely to be turned off the group.
I think your list does however include three major mistakes:
1)Sun City- whilst done in good faith, it was a really idiotic thing to do. It was wrong and it showed a huge lack of insight. It also enabled critics to paint Queen in a light which was completely unfair.
2)The Cosmos Rocks- Not the album itself, but that it was credited to Queen (or Queen + Paul Rodgers.) If they had presented it as completely separate to Queen, I wouldn't have minded. However by presenting it as a Queen album (even a Queen + album), I think it set expectations which it was never able to deliver upon and I also think it would have been better for everyone, particularly the fanbase, if it had not been credited to Queen. I certainly would have preferred if it hadn't been.
3)WWRY musical- I love stage musicals. I've seen Mamma Mia twice, but I really hated WWRY. What makes it a major mistake IMO is that it had the potential to reintroduce Queen to a whole new generation, yet it failed miserably.
