AMERICAN IDOL loser ADAM LAMBERT has dismissed rumours he is set to front rock legends QUEEN.
The group's guitarist Brian May gave 2009 runner-up Lambert a boost by praising his abilities after performing with the singer on the finale of the U.S. TV talent show last month (May09).
But Lambert insists he has no plans to join the band full-time, as he wants to carve out a career in his own right.
Lambert says, "They’ve never actually offered me anything.
They expressed interest in working together, but just said they’d like to have a meaningful conversation, and that’s it. It could have meant they wanted me to come to dinner with them, it could have meant they wanted to talk about the meaning of life.
"I don’t know if joining the band permanently is in the cards (sic) for me right now. They’re legends; I’m just the new kid on the block."

Well, isn't this essentially what plenty of us were trying to say to those who immediately panicked? [/img]

Yes finally i was getting tired of the media talking about Adamreplacing mercury and becoming the next Mercury and only because of that stupid interview Brian May did with the Rolling Stones he didnt say anything about teaming up with Lambert. Plus if Queen gets a nother lead singer other than PR it has to be a very expierenced singer like David Bowie (who is actually sick too bad) , but not some new kid like Lambert whos only famous cause he won some singing competition thats is more on pop than rock.

This is good news. However, I still wouldn't mind him and Queen doing 'something' in the future. I'm not sure what that 'something' is, but it would be interesting.

I'm quite sure there's more probability of the Kepler probe photographing a "WELCOME EARTHLINGS" sign, than there is of anyone really giving a crap about your support.

Don't get me wrong; I think a Q+Lambert collaboration would be too much like cashing in, but really ... you have to re-evaluate just how important your 'support' is in this scenario.
The rest of you may throw rocks at me, but a lot of us out here love Queen and Adam Lambert and would love to see them appear together sometime. Adam has a fantastic voice and stage presence. Nobody can replace Freddie, but alas, Freddie isn't coming back no matter how much we might wish it. I'm just hoping that iTunes will get the video of Queen's appearance on Idol with Lambert and Allen so I can buy that for now.

Brian and Roger were clearly very impressed with Adam Lambert when he joined them in WATC on the Idols finale. Anyone who doubts Adam's insane vocal ability should check out his original songs on youtube. He is a counter tenor. His range is out of this world. He is also an incredibly passionate performer with immense stage presence. His songs with his former band Citizen Vein and his Zodiac Show performances are mind-blowing. He is not in another league from his AI competitiors, he's in another stratosphere.
There are plenty of people, myself included, who would be delighted to see Adam do some gigs with Brian and Roger. He would not be "replacing" Freddie, no one could. Not to mention, Adam will be putting out his own multi-platinum cds and selling out arenas on his own, in no time. He is a visionary. He is the most unique vocalist and performer I have seen since Freddie.
I've been a Freddie-worshipper for 31 yrs now, and will always be one. And I know Freddie was an admirer of great vocal talent. And he would be thrilled to have someone like Adam sing his songs.

I agree with you for the most part, though I think that Adam needs to be able to be creative in any endeavor, and so does Queen if they are to go forward. They can't just go around reliving Queen's the past. We all want to hear the Queen songs that we know and love, and at least some of us would be very excited to see Adam performing them with Queen, but that in itself would probably not sustain all involved for more than a while.
As I have posted here in another thread, I would very much like to see Adam get together with Brian and Roger and give it a try to see if they have the right chemistry to recapture some of the magic that we all saw when Freddie was there and Queen was whole. I think that Adam may have the ability to do that. I know that the hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw them together on Idol! And I too saw what looked like an affinity between Adam and Brian at the Idol finale, and also saw a look on Roger's face that gave me hope. But it was far too brief of an appearance! It was just a tease! I hope they do get together and explore the possiblity of working together at some point.

No question that Adam has a great voice. There's no doubt that Freddie had a great voice. Does this mean that Adam, Dr. May and Roger Taylor should join forces? Originally Brian made a comment after Freddie's death that Queen would no longer continue. Well it took over 20 years, but Brian and Roger changed their tune having Paul Rogers replace Freddie on vocals, whether Paul sounds like Freddie or not. Yes, I'm among those of you who agree that this was not the brightest move the remaining members of Queen should have made. If they wanted to add Paul to the band, despite what they originally said, they should not have used the "Queen" moniker at all, though something like "New Queen" would have been more palletable. Now there's talk about Adam 'maybe' doing something with Queen. Why, because he has a high voice? He still doesn't sound like Freddie. Here's something to ponder.....if Queen want to continue, why not go for somebody that really does sound like Freddie. Has anybody heard of Valensia Clarkson? I suggest if you haven't, you take a listen to his album called Valensia.....Queen tribute. This CD can be imported from your favorite online import store. It's on Lion Music out of Finland. Am I promoting him? No! I'm 56 and have been listening to Queen since their first album, and for those who really miss Freddie, this is one hell of a talented man. Not only does he sound 98% like Freddie, but he plays all the guitars (ala Brian) and plays bass. BTW, this album was released in 2004.
I have been a follower of Queen since the 70's when I first heard Bohemian Rhapsody and bought my first Queen album 'A Night at the Opera' then right through to 'Made in Heaven'. I don't usually watch 'American Idol' but this year caught most of the last few episodes including the finale and I have to say that Adam Lambert was the 'stand out' act, continually changing it up each week - incredible vocals. When he sang 'We are the Champions' with Queen on the finale it was incredible and I thought at last somebody who can really do justice to the Queen songs. Would love if he collaborated with Queen, wrote some new songs and went on tour particularly round the UK - I would be front in line to get some tickets!

OK buzzard,
I went and looked up Valensia. He is represented on You Tube, where I found sound tracks from the Queen Tribute. I didn't seem to find any performance videos. I will admit that his voice sounds similar to Freddie's, but I didn't sense any of Freddie's energy coming from these recordings. It was like the difference between a signature and a carefully executed copy.
The Wembley DVD. Right before Under Pressure, Freddie is tossing off some fluid, melodic voice riffs. He just opens his mouth and they roll out almost effortlessly. All the time Freddie is animated, expressive and interacting with the crowd.
This is what I see that Adam has. He has that energy and charisma and his voice is effortless and fluid. That is how he is like Freddie, but he is not a carefully executed copy, and likely never would be.
