Hello everybody. Im new in Queenzone and just wanna say Thank for all these uploads of Queen Bootlegs! I downloaded this and i had known that concert run a bit too fast. So i put in the softer Audacity and i would like to know the best way to fix it. Anyone knows?
What the right pitch: (000), (- 0,50)? What the tempo: - 2%? Or i just should change all in the speed function (pitch/tempo at the same time)?
Thank u and sorry for my bad english..

Be sure to change both the pitch and speed. These recordings are from old tapes, so both the speed and pitch are off when the tape runs too slow/fast.

In fact I changed the in the speed funcion (pitch / tempo) at the same time. This correct?
And I downloaded 2 versions of this show available on Queenzone. From torrent posted in 2009 and Mediafire (2007). That version ( mediafire 2007) seems to be better, sharper, louder than the posted later. Have you noticed this difference?

Has somebody done a speed-corrected version ? Do you have time ? :-)

Indeed.
"That version ( mediafire 2007) seems to be better, sharper, louder than the posted later."
That one is from a bootleg label, Gypsy Eye. They did hiss reduction, EQ'd it a bit, and added this crackling sound they usually add to their recordings (this bootleg label is notorious for purposely making recordings worse quality). My vote still goes for the uncut master from 2009. Nothing beats the master tape from the taper himself. To my ears it has more depth and punch.

Honestly, not for this one. It only plays very slightly too fast, so I don't think it really merits the work required. Give me a recording from LA 12-22-77 and I'll fix the speed 'til the cows come home. :-)

THANKS SIR GH for the link of master tape and explanations!!
So, the version of the link (mediafire 2007), was altered by the label (Gps. Eye)? Although it has been equalized, has defects (crackling sounds, etc.), right? This explains why Stone Cold Crazy of this version has little noises on the first solo. It was purposeful?
Despite being a detail, I would like to adjust a little pitch / speed of this concert to finalize the CD. You know the correct settings to enter in Audacity? In numbers.

No problem. Happy to help !
Sorry, I don't know Audacity. For simple audio editing, I use GoldWave.
Yes, bootleg companies tend to alter the sound of recordings, but not always. These things become really obvious when you hear the source tape, but sometimes a sound alteration can be obvious enough (like on most of Gypsy Eye's bootlegs).

I dont understand why they do it, but whatever.
Could you pass some configuration setting GoldWave for this concert, please? I'll try to fix it.
Thanks!

Because they'd rather keep the better-sounding version for themselves and make money off an inferior copy.

You can adjust it in units of semitone (in case you're not a musician, it's the distance between C and C sharp, for example). Slowing it down half a semitone should do it. Select effects/pitch, make it -1 semitone and fine tune it up 0.5.
Good luck !

Did you mean half semitone? It would be (-0.5) instead of -1? A semitone below seemed very slow and bass. -0.5 seemed ideal. Please correct me if I'm wrong. THANKS AGAIN! !!

I meant.. fine tune it 50. That's a half semitone :-)

Confirming the configuration: Semitone: (- 0.5) Fine Tune: 50 Right?
The Real Wizard · Member since
I'm using an older version of GoldWave (4.26) where you can only adjust the semitone in increments of 1, and fine tune for a partial semitone. But if your version lets you adjust the semitone with a decimal point, then -0.5 semitone is all you'll need to do. Feel free to post a sample here once you've finished.

Anyway, these numbers automatically adjust the speed?
I will gladly post some examples here after correcting these songs.
Thank you for the tips!

Indeed, if the function is the same as my version of GoldWave, this should affect both the pitch and the speed. You'll know for sure if the length of the recording is different once you're done.
