La japaneise it's a masterpice. It has so many chage of pace, and it sounds very peaceful, it' great.
How can I go on it's another one that I really like, can it be related to the fact that Freddie had just found out about aids?
I have a man-crush on Brian's solo on Delilah

I like it I mean I do listen to a bit of opera now and then so Montserrat's voice doesn't bother me too much of course the highlight is Barcelona though

Absolutely loved it since the day it came out!
It's such a shame that it wasn't a longer album.
Freddie obviously struggles a bit on some of the notes and I can't help wondering If only Fred didn't smoke, his voice would have been even better.

A masterpiece
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

I love the intro of barcelona, when the fat lady is faded in...it's quite a queen moment, as freddie delivers the whole package of the deal... productionwise.

yes, it's a very nice album, indeed.
It's nice hearing an album that freddie wasn't trying too write a bunch of top 40 hits.  Reminds me of the young freddie who wrote the stuff on Queen2 and so on.

Btw, what do you think about how it influenced the later queen albums?
All God's People is obivius, but I also saw many people think what it influenced Miracle album a lot. And on that album I found only Was It All Worth It reminiscent of Barcelona. Operatic intro, ringing synths reminds of Barcelona, and orchestra break show solid link.

Personally I didn't much like Barcelona. But I appreciate what he was trying to do... Make music with someone he greatly admired in another genre.

I'm more comfortable, though, with the more "poppy" stuff on Barcelona.

I liked...(Freddie's part)... it's nice to stay listening... it was Freddie's dream, sing Opera.. so he dedicated himself and stay a good album. Montserrat sing well.. so mix the voices and make a good album!

I can't agree with Thomas about his thinking about the production. I think that with the use of a real orchestra the theatrical touch would be much bigger.

Well, Brian himself said some things about the album with live orchestra:

2006: "There are of course many other tracks here which were much more carefully created ..... the fabulous Barcelona for instance .... so wonderfully sung. I just have a terrible hankering to hear it with REAL orchestra one day ... who knows ! But My God the Man could Sing !!!"

Maybe this is something that will see the light of te day?

thanks for that, never seen that brian post. If brian makes this happen I'll be a happy man. He'll be my hero for sure.

Barcalona is just one of the best and most original albums ever in my opinion.

I am no opera fan, even now, but Montserrat's contributions to the album help to really make it.

I realise that it would have been so much better with real instrumenation and orchestration, but the fact that it is what it is without all that shows just how great an album it truly is.

I would love to see the songs used as the backdrop for a stage show - an opera if you like :)

My point is that I think the choice of synth orchestra was deliberate; to make it stand out, to be un-authentic in terms of classical musics' rules and restrictions and to sound some ways artificial. Just my opinion. This doesn't mean that I would not like a real symphony orchestra to play the instrumental parts. It would be incredible to hear the songs and the album with Freddie's voice in accompanion. Maybe some day. But at the time I think it was a decision not to, but I may be mistaken. Maybe it was time, maybe it was money?

Maybe we should ask Mike Moran :)

According to an interview of which a piece was printed in, I think, the Freddie Box Set, Mike begged Freddie to use a real orchestra, but Freddie insisted on using synths because "you just don't have that kind of control over a real orchestra".
