Absolute Greatest Tracklist Revealed!

The Show Must Go On not closing it is a major aesthetic problem. Like when the Stones ended Forty Licks with It's Only Rock And Roll [b][i]followed[/i][/b] by a new Keith ballad.

On another note, I'm curious to see what versions of these songs will be used.  Will the genuine single edits for "One Vision" and "Radio Ga Ga" be used since there's limited time?  Will they use the original version of "Under Pressure" instead of the remix from Classic Queen?  Which of the many versions of "I Want It All" will they use, or will mistakes be made again and we'll get totally new edits/mixes of these songs?

I Can't believe that people believe that this album contains the Greatest Queen Songs. I Don't think so, they are good however they don't compete to the other studio songs from the 1970s. Personaly I think 20 songs is not enough. 25 or 30 songs would be better and they should include the other big hits which are not included such as: Now I'm Here, Fat Bottomed Girls/Bicycle Race, Save Me or Play the Game, It's a Hard Life, Hammer to Fall, Breakthru, Innuendo, A Winter's Tale.

It's a good list, but definitely not the one I would choose. In my opinion It's a Hard Life and Innuendo are among the 20 best Queen songs. But let's set aside the discussion of what greatest hits should be included, because we'll never reach an agreement and apparently the majority who voted did not think as I do (I actually missed the "election").

But let's focus on something different: the strategy. Including good songs which are not part of the most renowned greatest hits (or simply not included at all) such as The Millionaire Waltz, A Winters Tale, White Queen, Dear Friends, Was it all Worth It, etc. would be much more effective than repeating great but eroded songs (You Are my Best Friend, One Vision, Seven Seas of Rhye, etc.). This would help Queen renew its public and facilitate the discovery of "new gems".

I am too.
For some reason, I think it may be enough to get me to buy the thing.  I'm not up on all of the different remasters like many people, but I wonder if this will have anything new in that arena as well.

[b] OK....Here's the thing about Queen: You cannot just choose 20 songs!!! That's why all the controversy! It's simply not enough! Queen is an extraordinary band with dozens and dozens of great songs!
 A friend was making me some tapes. When I sent him my list of 68 "must haves", he asked me to narrow them down. I wound up with 93!
 It's a tough order. You have to include Hammer To Fall, Breakthru, Nevermore, Stone Cold Crazy, Lilly Of The Valley, Sheer Heart Attack, Love Kills, Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow, Great King Rat, The Ogre Battle, Now I'm Here, Liar, Spread Your Wings, Passing The Open Window, All Dead All Dead, Headlong, It's A Hard Life, Ride The Wild Wind, Man On The Prowl, Bicycle Race, A Kind Of Magic, Action This Day, Love Of My Life, '39, Play The Game, Don't Try Suicide, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Save Me, Keep Yourself Alive, I Was Born To Love You, Need Your Loving Tonight, Funny How Love Is. Teo Torriatte, Barcelona, How Can I Go On?, Who Needs You?, Fairy Feller's Masterstroke, Misfire, Let Me Entertain You, Las Palabras De Amor, Your Kind Of Lover.....
 See what I mean? How can one possibly choose?? These aren't in order of preference either.....because these last ones are some of my very favorites. But, as someone mentioned, it would really be great to acquire New Queen fans. To do that, I think it best to bring out the less familiar songs and give them a chance, rather than beating the old familiar ones into the ground.
 Another good point was brought up.....which versions? That might not apply to most groups, but with Queen, it's an essential consideration. My opinion is do everything from the live versions. Freddie was made for an audience. He was born to entertain. He was electrifying, dynamic, and fed off the audience.  So, get as many songs as possible in their live versions, since they're so much more powerful and entertaining. They're filled with so much more passion and emotion. They're just better! Freddie embodied the music and his charisma & passion saturated the lyrics. And he made everything come alive when he had an audience. That was part of his genius. He was magic! He was the BEST!!!!!
 By the way, Under Pressure was the best at Wembley or Montreal (sans David Bowie!) Anything from those concerts should be included live, just the way Freddie did them.

Freddie's the best - ever - !!!!

Given the constraints of CD technology and the average attention-span of music listeners (we've been conditioned to listen to 80 mins of music for at least 20 years before the advent of MP3 technology)... the compilation is brilliant and does justice to the Queen catologue.

However, Bicycle Race should have probably substituted Seven Seas Of Rhye and Save Me for Heaven For Everyone... this would have kept the most popular Queen tracks intact. Although Innuendo was a chart topper, it ain't relevent anymore, unfortunately.

As usual my commentary comes much too late - though i read this when it was new.

I think AG comes close to doing Queen any justice, the controversy is more about its title i guess, which might be unfortunately chosen. "Best Known" would come closer to summarize this compilation, since this is no other "Greatest Hits" package, which its title might erroneously indicate.

With a few exceptions every song was a hit in its own right, there is no doubt about KQ, BR, YMBF, STL, WATC, CLTCL, AOBTD, UP, RGG, IWTBF, AKOM and TSMGO.

SSOR was their breakthrough single in the UK, and wouldn't it have been, Queen might never have grown that big.

WWRY is extremely popular and played at nearly every major sports event.

DSMN is the second-most downloaded song only to BR by far, and probably just wasn't that big a hit back then as it only had been the second single of Jazz. I always considered it to be far better than Bicycle Race.

OV might be questionable to me, but might have been included due to their unbelievable succees at Live Aid (this only is an assumption).

WWTLF is widely known, even if it hasn't been a major hit back then. Especially the Magic album was a hell of a mess with all its different single releases all around the world. But WWTLF even became a major hit in the 90s, when Dune's cover took it all the way to #2 in Germany, and to the Austrian, Swiss and Dutch TopTen as well.

TATDOOL became widely known due to it being a double-A-side with BR in the UK and a few other countries around the world. Questionable though, how it would have done on its own.

IWIA and HFE are probably included to represent their parent albums The Miracle and Made In Heaven, since they spawned no other major hit single.

My AG wouldn't look much different, but i could only be nearly objective in terms of chart success, which would look surprizingly similar to this. Overall i think, this is quite good a compilation. And clearly no, you can't do Queen any justice with only 20 songs, but you can't squeeze more onto a single CD either - unless it is MP3.
