I am one of those who doesn't like the song. And I will explain my opinion why is that so, for those who are interested.
I'm not saying it is crap, I don't like it because:
1- I don't think that good bass line is enough for a good song;
2- The song has very poor guitar sound- which for me is a big minus. A good guitar can make a miracle!
3- The same with drums. They have to be more audible.
4- Lyrics. Yes, I don't like it either. Not because it's too loose or about gay (is it?).  Some of Led Zep lyrics way much more loose than this (Lemon Song...), but the song doesn't suffer from it. The thing is that he just repeats the same. I have a feeling that he wrote it in 5 minutes. Anything on the mind just because the song need lyrics. A cheating.
5- Vocals- ok. But the song doesn't show it in the all glory. It doesn't show the power of voice.
Maybe they wanted to make it simple. Without tricky guitar. But then they had to throw in something special into it. Bass? Come on! Only vocals could save the thing in this case. Some elaboration with this might work out pretty well. But what they did? They left it plain simple. No spices.  Sorry, but I think this is boring.

I love how people can't seperate what they like and don't like from their view of what is crap and what isn't.

Just because you don't like a song does NOT mean it's crap. You have every right not to like it, but the quality of the song is something completely different. It's a simple and catchy tune. I find most people (perhaps a few on this site) who don't like "Body Language" can't deal with the subject matter and how Freddie wrote and performed it, very overtly sexually (and they tend to be same people who don't like the B-side version of "See What A Fool I've Been"...think about that for a moment). The subject matter alone is fine for them, because "Get Down, Make Love" doesn't sound like gay disco, it rocks out!

In short, for these people, it's "Oh no, gay disco synthy funk pop...I'm too manly for this!"

[/QUOTE]

There are probably many more, like me, who don't like it because it's naff. Plus, when you think that Fred was capable of writing BoRap, but instead chose to churn out disposable pop like this --- well, let's just say it was a waste of his considerable talents.

ps I love See What a Fool I've been.

pps I think you are making huge general statements based on what 1 or 2 of your mates might think.

ok, so body language is one of the very few fred songs from the first 9 albums I don't like.  I don't think it's queen's worst song by a long shot, that belongs to put out the fire and fun it, more of that jazz, pain and pleasure, ect,   but the song didn't work, it had potential.  A few changes would have improved it, real bass playing for one.   is it complete crap?....No,  it's somewhat decent. Catchy in some ways.  Wasn't there a commercial featuring body language recently?

I actually like 'body language' live versions. But at the same token, the entire hot space album sounds better live, sharper and edgier.

It´s not a bad album, IMO, but it´s definitly one of my least favourite Queen albums. I feel sad that Hot Space was recorded when it was recorded based on the fact that Freddies vocals never has sounded better than the early 80´s. Also, in my opinion. I feel that Body Language is not the strongest song on the album. Staying Power, Dancer and Under Pressure is much better, even though they´re miles away from what the other releases in the Queen catalouge. It was a unfortunate release that might have been better of released 6 months earlier of later, or...as a "maxi single", as some kind of spoof..if you get the idea...
It´s better to burn out than to fade away.

That's funny, Major Tom.  Because I think that everything AFTER Hot Space would fall into your Maxi Single category.  Hot Space is much better than Works, Magic, and the horrendous Innnuendo.  And I won't even consider Made In Heaven... unless their's a Best Recycled Album category.

Yes, Innuendo was a great song.  No, it was not their next Bohemian Rhapsody, as most Fred-sympethists call it.   The only reason it got the #1 in the UK is out of pity.  Look at how quick it fell.  Headlong was dumber than any song on Hot Space... unless you're a fan of the Hoop Diddies.  Nearly every other track is over-synthed.... even compared to Hot Space.

To tell you the honest truth Microwave, I really don´t like the 80´s Queen aswell. The Works is what we call "Maxi single" material. It got a bit better with AKOM but dropped below ground with Miracle. Innuendo however, is one of my absolute fav. albums of ALL TIME. I´ll never know why that is..

What I ment was(and I was drunk when I posted yesterday), I really don´t listen to Hot Space as a Queen album. It´s never amongst the albums I think of when I think of Queen. I listen to it for fun. It is not a ass album, but it kinda makes me happy.

I agree about hot space,  it's not an album I think about when I think of vintage Queen, but it still has it's merits and it is a feel good, fun album.  A guilty pleasure if you will. I only hate 3 or 4 songs on the album.  Body language, put out the fire,  calling all girls,  and maybe dancer.  That leaves 7 songs i enjoy in some way, though even those songs arn't vintage, except under pressure. The album as a whole still isn't nearly as bad as people say. If you compare with other bands weak albums, it's actually pretty good.  Judas priest's turbo album was a lot worse, and let's not even talk about metallica saint anger, possibly the worst album I ever heard.  Oh, and Innuendo is also one of my all time favorite albums.  It leaves hot space in the dust IMO.

Been a long time since I've had an album do that!!!!

I'm not as critical as a lot of queenzoners,  I have an open mind once it comes to music.  I think hot space has the edge on albums like the works, magic and the miracle. At least they were trying something different.  but then again hot space doesn't have anything as good as "who want to live forever" or one vision, so I change my mind a lot on that one.

Strange. Body Language, Put Out The Fire, Calling All Girls and Dancer are the only songs which I LIKE on the album :)
Turbo is great, but it's a "heavy pop" album :) Also Saint Anger is great, don't you love the fact that Lars Ulrich is such a genius that he's able to play on Coke cans ? :)
Innuendo is simply beautiful, but songs like Hitman need proper remastering

I never liked Body Language until I've heard it live. The live versions are great, just like the Hollywood remix

Terms like "crap" are describing ALWAYS a personal opinion.  There is no such thing as a "universal truth", every single person on this planet has different opinions. It's normal that songs which are considered bullshit by somebody are really loved by many others.

BTW GDML and BL are probably the most gay songs ever written, but after a few drinks I like them alot :)
