Its a nice and gentle love song...
"Queen are: Freddie Mercury,Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Brian May"

It's horribly oversung by Freddie. Very grating at times, especially the "prisoner of love" bit.

I love the melody.

Hate the sleazy saxophone; puts it into the realm of a porn movie soundtrack.

It's good to hear everyone's opinion on the song. Personally I like it and I love Freddies vocal on it. It fitted in well with the film it was written for and I liked it on the subsequent album release.
I notice PISCTP gets a really bad press off quite a few people, I really love the song and love Freddies falsetto vocal. Makes me smile every time I hear it.

I like OYOL. It is such a complete break from the other Queen songs that it is like a sudden breeze from a different direction than the prevailing winds. I don't care if it is over the top.

Don't lose your head is the worst song on a kind of magic, and pain and pleasure is right up there.  The album has it's moments, like one vision, the title track, one year of love, who wants to live forever and princess of the universe are solid tunes.

One of their worst songs ever!
Badly recorded with no imagination what so ever
This song would have made Michael Bolton proud

It's alright.

I liked it the first time I heard it due to Freddie's strong vocals.

I actually quite like Zeb's idea too of speeding it up. Kind of sang it in my head that way and it could sound quite cool. NOT WITH ME SINGING IT THOUGH.

It's a pretty good song--mostly because of Freddie's vocal.
I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me-Freddie Mercury

"One Year of Love" is a great example of Freddie's lack of vocal restraint in the '80s.  His credo then seemed to be: When in doubt, belt it out!  This track called for a heartfelt, understated vocal, but what Freddie offers up is just plain loud and very impersonal.  Sad.

Thank God "These Are The Days of Our Lives" didn't get the same treatment five years later.[/QUOTE]
Totally agree. It's unlistenable due to nobody having the stones to tell Freddie to turn it down a couple of notches.

Cheesy song with one of Freddie's worst vocal performances. In short, it sucks.

No, I do not believe that's true. In my opinion the most underrated Queen song is "White Queen". It has most of Queen's trademarks (killer guitar, vocal harmonies second to none, key and rhythm changes etc.), while OYOL has none of the above. At the same time One Year is relatively known because it was featured in a blockbuster movie and its sequel, albeit briefly. Those movies are still being re-released in various formats, which makes them even more well-known. Mr. Joe Public doesn't know "White Queen", in part because the last official release it received (not re-release, mind you) was the "Box of Trix" set back in the early 90's. Before that was the first EP, and even before that was the second Queen album.

In all fairness, Queen have plenty of underrated songs ("Sail Away Sweet Sister", "Lily of the Valley", "Was It All Worth It" etc.) and it's hard to name just one. I've actually been toying with the idea of making a compilation for personal use called "Queen: The Underrated Songs".

Spot on about White Queen. One of my favourites and absolutely love the early live versions when the guitar solo comes in. Classic Queen!

I think its a good song, but kill the Sax!!! I like the fade out as well...For those that say this song was "80's shtick" and "dated almost immediately" then they must not like the entire album because most of the other songs have all the same elements you complained of minus the Sax...There's too much synth all over the album and drum machines run rampant throughout.
Dislocate your spine if you don't sign.....He say's I'll have you seeing double
