I absolutely hate the re-hashed songs they did on MIH.  They should of been left as is.

I love some of the songs on MIH, but not all.

The instrumental at the end is really haunting (the hidden track) and doesn't Freddie say 'are you running?' during the middle of it or something? I like that bit...gets me quite emotional! But was there any need for such a long instrumental hidden track? lol. But hey, i'm not complaining. It's Brian's job to play guitar.

Damned synths. It lacks guitar.
It remembers me a bit Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

i have a soft spot for mih,my wife bought it for me when it was first released, and i actually prefer it to hot space,an album i have never really been able to get into, too many "dance" tracks for me.
i remember buying champions of the world around the same time,i allways tend to think of them as a pair, probebly because they had the same cover!!

I think it's weakest songs are not as weak as any of the really weak songs on the 80's albums (pain is so close to pleasure, party etc) but I disagree about the Hot Space comment - I have always loved it and there was a lack of completely new material on MIH.

Also despite how much I especially admire Freddie, and the circumstances surrounding it, I really don't like A Winter's Tale.  I AM willing to except that the fault lies with me and not the song, but I can't fight the feeling.

I always go back and forth on which album I like better hot space or made in heaven.  I like MIH better I think, it has better lryics and musically is more Queen like.  I only like hot space for it's great vocals,  but MIH also has very good vocals.  Who else thinks Made in heaven has some of freddie's best vocal performances?....Heaven for everyone,  and one of my all time favorites "a winter's tale" and mother love.   "It's a beautiful day" also finds freddie in fine voice.

MIH is overall a poor album, second only to Hot Space. Too Many Solo songs rehashed, that stupid 13 minute track of nothing, Winters Tale has cringeworthy lyrics, you dont fool me is terrible, best tracks are Mother Love and Let Me Live. If they had to re record solo stuff then love kills or she blows hot an cold would have been better and songs like Robbery, face it alone, dog with a bone would have been better imo to put on instead of hfe, iwbtly or mih.

I agree w/ Sir GH's comments about Made In Heaven (concerning sound, production, & legacy). This is how I feel that record stacks up against the different 80's albums. Not including The Game.
-Made In Heaven>Flash Gordon: MIH is clearly better, not really a fair comparison in some ways because of the intent & concept for each record. Song vs. Song however, there's no competition IMO.
-Made In Heaven>Hot Space: Although I'm an American fan...I do love the arrangements of each of the tracks on Hot Space...live they were great, however the production was so dated, and ruined the legacy it could've had. Made In Heaven is superior in those regards.
-Made In Heaven>The Works: I hate The Works...for me the only redeeming songs on that album are- "Hammer To Fall," "It's A Hard Life," & "I Want To Break Free;" The rest of the album is pure shite, I hate synthesizers. This is no contest. MIH wins.
-Made In Heaven>A Kind Of Magic: What makes MIH greater than AKOM to me? I'll give you 5 reasons: No "Pain Is So Close To Pleasure," or "Gimme The Prize," or "Don't Lose Your Head," or "A Kind of 'A Kind Of Magic,'" or "Friends Will Be Friends Will Be Friends."
-Made In Heaven>The Miracle: Creatively speaking, I think The Miracle is a high point for them, it's overall their most original album of that decade. However I don't like the flow of that album..."Invisible Man," & "Rain Must Fall" don't really sound like they belong on the album to me. MIH is superior in that regard and that's why I think it's better.
"Let us cling together as the years go by; Oh my love, my love. In the quiet of the night, Let our candle always burn; Let us never lose the lessons we have learned." - Brian May

I love MIH. Not including the game, its better than all the 80's albums. There are some real gems on this albums, with the only song that I don't like being You Don't Fool Me, but having basically every single song beautifully done. I think that there were some brilliant vocals on it myself.
One night Roger was in a foul mood and he threw his entire bloody drumset across the stage. The thing only just missed me - I might have been killed. - Freddie Mercury

Sorry about the delay but I hadn't seen the question.

AFAIK, Too Much Love wasn't included on 'The Miracle' because they couldn't get permisson from whoever owned Frank's and/or Elizabeth's publishing rights. By 'Back to the Light', the issue had been solved.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

It really does depend on your criteria.  Are we evaluating each album as a work of art, or are we focused on the circumstances in which the album was created?  Are we looking for good performances, originality, surprises, risk taking, or sentimentality??

It would take a bigger brain than mine to come up with a really well thought out evaluation of Made in Heaven.  It sails too close to sentimentality for the cynic in me to say it's among their best work, but it does appeal to my soppy side in places.  The lyrics of A Winter's Tale are a bit off, but the chord progressions in it will always get me right here (points at chest) because in context, they are achingly beautiful.  I've known a couple of people who summoned up that kind of positivity before kicking the bucket, and it's a poignant thing.  For me, anyway.

A lot of people dismiss the album as 'rehashes' because I suppose that's what most of the tracks are.  Or at least, one could argue that point.  I'm really more about the intent and the end product, and when you consider what they had to work with, vs. what the album COULD have turned out like if less love and care had gone into it...  it's a beautiful thing, I wouldn't hesitate putting it above their 80's stuff.
I've changed my mind - I mean 'Mother Love', what a song, those lyrics.  I really feel it for myself, never mind if one tris to put oneself in the shoes of a sick dying man.  If songs like 'TMLWKY' were written just for that album and MIH and IWBTLY etc - then I would consider it a masterpiece.  But they weren't.

I agree with Zebonka though - how one can really judge it objectively is beyond me.  It's great to listen to in winter though.  I like to listen to it in the rain at dusk.  Perfect.

mother love and a winters tale are both great songs.  The lryics for a winter's tale is a bit off, but the way he sings it, and brians solo are superb.  both mother love, and escpecially a winter's tale is an example of why brian may is a great guitarist.  The emotion he puts into those songs is amazing.
