Germany does better when they are under the radar. Brazil does better when their fanbase criticizes their lack of "jogo bonito". France does better when they are bashed by the press.
I personally think that overhyped teams hold a huge burden on them.

I'm going for Australia, however once we are eliminated, I'll switch my support over to Argentina.

England vs USA 1:1 - the first big surprise. With such a goalkeeper England needs to score more goals if they want to be successful in this world cup.
Thre vuvuzelas are a pain, they kill the atmosphere in the stadium. Even the English fans were muted by this monotonous horrible noise. Let's hope that the FiFa does something after even the players complained that they are unable to communicate.
To watch Messi is pure joy. What an outstanding player, he is in his own league.

I agree that the vuvuzelas really are a pain. They were a nice novelty when the home team were playing, but now they are just a dreadful bore. Never thought I'd say this, but I wanted to hear the English fans after a while.......
Still have to get round to watching the Argentina game....
NO SURPRISES HERE. GERMANY IS ONE OF THE BEST [/QUOTE]
The Aussie's are hardly a side to be reckoned with tho. The Germans hardly broke sweat in beating them they were that poor

I am so depressed. I was hoping that we could have a 1-0 loss, and perhaps even aim for a draw. When I saw that we were down 2 goals in the first half, I was upset but I was hoping we would recover in the second half. Maybe score a goal, perhaps even 2. Little did I know.
We need to beat Ghana. If we do, and we then beat Serbia, we will make the second round. But it's going to be tough, and as much as I hate to admitt it, we probably won't succeed.

It's all going well so far. There have been some good matches. Germany got off to a great start! The squad is very tight and well-coordinated.
The vuvuzelas are a tad bit annoying, though. It's as if the stadium had been placed inside a huge honeycomb, and the noise starts to get tiresome after awhile. : (

I like to think of myself as a fairly worldly individual, but I can't wait until our amateur soccer team gets the shit beaten out of it again so that they're out of contention and I can stop seeing this blanket coverage of crap on every TV channel. It's not even a real sport. I'm utterly sick of all of the homoerotic advertising that goes along with it. Like that ridiculous commercial where the kid is hiding behind the car and watching these sweaty soccer legends duke it out with some CG animals.
Honestly, it's getting old. I also like that all of the hard hitting journalism shows here (60 Minutes and what have you) only seemed to give a shit about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa when there's a World Cup on. Fuck off with this lousy soccer, put some women's beach volleyball on instead. At least someone's guaranteed to score.

I cant be bothered with those vevuzelas as well.
They are worse than Slayer and Rage Against The Machine together at their loudest.

Yes, the UK/US game was a tie... but it was a victory for us Americans.
We just won the fricking Super Bowl!!!!
Now we can go back to not giving a damn about soccer. Perhaps round II will be a little more exciting.

There was no Scottish Irish or Welsh in that team.

1 in 4 Americans think french fries (or 'chips' in your fine land) are a vegetable, so I'm not counting on a large number of them being able to distinguish England from the UK.
