i would also like to add my complete and utter joy at the dismal performance of the french team. they say cheats never prosper...well certainly not this time, i am so glad that the french have struggled after the cheating manner in which they qualified. ironic isn't it that the team that maybe eliminates them also wears green? i hope Mr Platini and his cronies do not bang on about integrity prior to the Uruguay/Mexico matchup...as not a single french official showed a miligram of integrity when they cheated their way into the finals. Haven't laughed so much in years.
my Irish team were cheated out of a place in the last 32.....and i am sure they'd have made a better fist of things than the "surrendering cheese munchers"....KARMA !!!!

They'd have to score 3 goals - and either Uruguay or Mexico must score only one goal, but not tie. It's pretty slim.

Glad they lost as well as they were shit. Tevez (Argentinia) is even worse, in my opinion.

Could you imagine Rubbery and Tevez in 3D TV????
What a nightmare......

Great story, GratefulFan :-) I understand you well because I often run out of the room myself when the game is very tight and I cannot stand the suspense :-) I have a Russian friend who was devastated by the 3:7 loss vs Canada in the Olympics and he was overjoyed by the 5:2 victory in the World Cup but in the end the Czechs won:-) It's just a game but emotions run high when a "national" team sport is involved. I think it does not matter if it's football or ice hockey (no disrespect intended but "hockey" in Germany is field hockey ;-))
Great match of Mexico - the French had no concept and no idea - they were no team, just a bunch of players who ran next to each other with no communication or team spirit at all.
I feel bad for the Argentinian players who have to bear Maradonna kissing each player when they win, lol.

He looks a little lost, doesn't he? There were two group 'huddles' after their win and Maradonna was on the outside looking in on both of them. He put his arm run a sub, who shrugged him off. I get the feeling Argentina are winning despite him rather than because of him.

the spanish ref is a bit card happy isn't he? Klose sent off for them 2 tackles, there be no players left at full time at that rate :-p

BBC are saying that Calamity James is in goal for England........
Actually I have to laugh at those "experts" who say that the team should be told a lot sooner so the "they could prepare themselves for the game". What a joke that is. If those players are not prepared from the minute they set foot on the plane to the world cup then they should be sent packing.

I can't believe Podolski lost this one. The German squad is way better, this score is so unfair.

Never learn, do they? When in the game do you think he'll have his customary rush of blood to the head? 70 minutes? Just before the end, so that England won't have time to come back? Joe Hart is the best goalie in England and should be playing. If you're good enough, you're old enough ...

I'm in shock over Germany's defeat. Even before the ref was handing out yellow cards like birthday cards at an octuplets' birthday party, Germany were not playing with confidence. The better team won.
It's incredible how many of the superpowers have not been stepping up to the plate - Spain, France, England, and now Germany. They have a combined four points.

This match cost me 2 years of my life :-( No excuses for the team but 9 yellow cards and a send-off in a totally fair match with not a single vicious foul can destroy the game. What is a striker supposed to do if he is not allowed to fight for the ball? Klose did not commit a "card-worthy" foul.
Now the match vs Ghana will be vital.

No doubt the ref wanted Germany to lose. But that doesn't excuse their lack of confidence. They weren't playing with conviction even before the card throwing began. They looked like a whole different team from the one that convincingly defeated Australia.
