It's interesting that the debut album is so polarising - it's in many best lists, and many worst lists.

I love all the albums, but...
(In no particular order)

Best:
Queen II
A Day at the Races
Sheer Heart Attack
Queen
A Night at the Opera

Worst:
Flash Gordon (The songs are just not my style. Except for Flash's Theme.)
A King of Magic (Some of the songs are kinda boring)
The Works (I had to pick something)
The Game (Same as The Works)
Hot Space ( I actually like all the songs except Body Language.)

best
ANATO
Queen II
Innuendo
ADATR
Jazz

worst
Flash Gordon (good sountrack, as a album, is not good)
Hot Space (good songs, terrible mixing)
Queen (same of HS, but perhaps this is the first album, ok...)
A Kind Of Magic (this album, or soundtrack, what is it!!)
Made In Heaven (They have many rarities to work, but no, used Freddie, Brian and Cross songs to rework!)

Best:

1. Queen II (5/5) - Side Black is Queen's underrated magnum opus.

2. Hot Space (5/5) - So much fun! I like that they didn't take themselves so seriously. Given how Roger pioneered disco-funk within this band on the Jazz album, it's odd to hear him bash Hot Space. "I didn't want it to sound like it came out of a gay club." But "Fun It" didn't? Girl, please.

3. Sheer Heart Attack (4.5/5) - The melodies are just insane on this one. Queen had hit their stride.

4. Queen (4/5) - I like the rawness of it. There's something mystifying about these short songs that are still progressive.

5. A Night at the Opera (4/5) - Overall, I don't think it's their greatest album, and there are some real duds here, but the stronger material far makes up for songs like Sweet Lady.

--

Worst:

11. A Kind of Magic (3.5/5) - Same deal with The Miracle and The Works. Good overall, but there's some real clunkers here.

12. The Works (3/5) - Great musicianship here, really tight production... but not a whole lot to love. This could be swapped with The Miracle depending on my mood.

13. The Miracle (3/5) - Some decent tracks (Breakthru, Rain Must Fall) with an absolutely horrendous production.

14. Made in Heaven (2/5) - I don't like albums released after death. Even though Freddie was involved in trying to produce as much material as possible, I feel like they really dropped the ball on the handling of some of this material. Roger and Brian left to their own devices also proved to be disastrous.

15. The Cosmos Rocks (0/5) - This spot could have been reserved for Flash, but I have a difficult time panning an album that's just a soundtrack score. But this? This was CRIMINAL. Innuendo was the end of the brilliant career. The Cosmos Rocks was a joke. If it were released under a different band moniker, maybe. But don't call this garbage Queen.

--

And something should be said for the plethora of awful compilations that all were redundant. Stone Cold Classics, Deep Cuts, Absolute Greatest, and Queen Forever. None of these are a thing that needed to be in existence. With The Platinum Collection OR the 40th Anniversary Box, what else do you need?

Also, hello forum. :-)

Nice post.......

I'd just take issue with a few things....(of course its all a matter of opinion, subjective, blah blah blah)....Hot Space in the top 5? And I think MIH is better than 2 out of 5, if only for You Dont Fool Me, Let Me Live, and the 'Queen-ified' versions of Made In Heaven, and I Was Born To Love You.....
I'll take you to the Seven Seas of Rhye

Hot Space is fantastic in my opinion. I love pop music, and I love dance music. That + Queen = amazing. At least to me.

And yeah, Made in Heaven has its moments, but... it's not a Queen album. It's a memorial. And it feels wrong to listen to.

Best:
1. Innuendo (in my opinion their best album to date, hands down. just an amazing album overall and a great 'send-off' to one of the greatest vocalists in rock history.)

2. ANATO/ADATR (okay, it's a bit of a cheat, but i can't pick just one. they might be a little overrated, but with good reason.)

3. Queen II (this one speaks for itself, but most of them do, really.)

4. News Of The World (same as above.)

5. Sheer Heart Attack (same as above.)

BONUS: 6. The Miracle (my personal favourite, if only for the fact that it's what got me into Queen in the first place, so it's more here out of sentiment than for musical reasons.)

Worst:
1. Flash Gordon (the absolute worst. i just can't like it, or get into it. the only song i really like is 'the hero'.)

2. Hot Space (not THE worst, on account of having 'under pressure', 'life is real' and 'las palabras de amor' (and others), but still pretty bad. just not 'flash' bad.)

3. A Kind Of Magic (pretty weak album, though i do like 'one vision', 'who wants to live forever' and 'princes of the universe'.)

4. ?

5. ?
