IMHO this is one of Brians best songs, the lyrics are excellent and when freddie sang this live he sang it beautifully and captured the emotion of the song

I completely agree. It is an amazing song and it capped off arguably one of Queen's very best albums. I think it was the perfect closing song to The Game, and I consider it to be an absolute classic. :D

I agree that it's a great song, but IMO the live version far surpasses the studio version.

why does everyone need to compare live vs studio?....it's a bloody good song either way.  the Game was a great album i think.  After a few not so great songs with don't try suicide and coming soon the album ends on a high note with save me.

It's amazing how much difference that makes. The Game would mean something different to me is it ended with, say AOBTD or Coming Soon instead of Save Me.

I love that song. It never grows old.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Yes, it's a good song. When I heard the studio version, I liked it. When I heard the live version, I loved it. Do I love the studio version now? Not really - this is a song that played live really comes alive (pun unintended).  Like it or not, the two versions are very different.

I personally prefer the studio version because of Brian's harmonies in the second lift and because of the acoustic. Oh, and the guitar choir is fabulous.

I always miss the harmonies when they played live. Roger would try to sing them (Brian would too but more often Roger), but it rarely sounded even close to the studio version.

Great song indeed. I remember being 10 years old listening to this song in the record store (with the headphones) while reading the lyrics. I bought the game album right after that.

And for the six mark question!

Who can tell me where and when SAVE ME was performed live for the first time?

While I also miss the chorus harmonies, I was mostly referring to these ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z9fDRjqVyI (1:42 - 1:53).

Not to mention the extraordinary and priceless bit when bass and acoustic join the piano after the first verse.

One of my favourite Queen songs and yes Live version is better.

Certainly a great end to the, in my opinion, half-baked The Game.
