Yes, Freddie drank and did cocaine for awhile: But he never was "addicted" to it--and kept the partying off stage (wasn't intoxicated on stage).

I read in a book that Freddie DID use drugs and DID drink alcohol. but was NOT addicted in any way shape or form to either things. in fact he was AGAINST people using drugs. he was using them but was 100% not addicted to them.

I always have that feeling too when I'm watching Live Aid: "great performance, but Freddie looks very agressive / coked up over there" I don't do drugs, so I wouldn't know for sure but i think Freddie took some coke before hitting the Live Aid stage.

You can tell if someone's on it by looking in their eyes--Freddie wasn't on coke at Live Aid at all! Wanna check out someone coked out at Live Aid? Try Elton John! LOL

Yep, I also heard he did coke at parties just or fun and used to drink. But he wasn't addicted to it.
I read in one of his interviews in which he said he didn't like anything out of his control, and taking drugs would take it out from him.
And he didn't like the feeling of being out of real, so he thought it was riddiculous to be dominated by it.

Peter Freestone's book "Freddie Mercury" spells most of this out.
He drank heavily and often. I'd say he was an alcoholic.
Before reading Peter's book I was under the assumption that cocaine was the only drug he used. Come to find out while living in NYC Freddie would send Peter out to the local "market" to purchase a nice supply for him and his friends. Uppers, downers, quaaludes, and ecstasy were drugs used by him.
Was he an addict? I'd say if you need someone to get you drugs, then yes you're an addict.
He was also addicted to sex. His drinking, drug use, and trolling cost him his life.

I've heard audio of Queen where Freddie was drunk on stage.
It may have been a link that someone posted on this website.

He wasn't against people using drugs. He had Peter Freestone purchase his weekly supply of drugs for him and his friends. He offered drugs to his friends, but never insisted that they use them.

I'm laughing at some people saying that Freddie wouldn't be able to perform on piano and sing if he was on coke. Tell that to Brian Wilson, who did it often, and also performed half an album while high on pot.
Anyways, the reason I asked all this, is because I usually see footage and Freddie's drinking alcohol a lot of the times. Look at his piano at concerts, those Heiniken beers had to come from somewhere. Look at his interviews, big mugs of beer.
