And also the general public did not have video recorders then.

Maybe one day it (Now I'm Here) will rear it's head like the three 'Seven Seas Of Rhye' appearances on 'Top Of The Pops'.

Two days ago I corrected  a mistake on Sebastians Mistakes topic. It was about the second picture. This is what I wrote :

"Another little thing that's debatable is the date of the picture with John with the Rickenbacker bass, from the debut album section. This picture is definitely not from 71-72 , but most likely from the Now I'm here Top of the pops appearance.
Here is the link with other pictures from that show.: http://qliverecordings.tripod.com/unknow.html  .
There we can see the drum kit of the band Hello. They released a single called Games Up  in February 75. Now I'm here had it's first chart appearace in late January. So it's the most logical conclusion is that the picture is from Now I'm here TOTP."

I originally thought that this pic (with FM in red jacket) was 'Now I'm Here' from 'Top Of The Pops' but Jim Jenkins said it wasn't, and GB thinks he has seen a performance of 'Killer Queen' with FM in this jacket (but has yet to be found).

This was their performance of it from the TOTP Xmas show 1974 I seem to remember...

ibut the timeline matched the drumkit for the band HELLO - whon only had two hits - "tell him" and "new york groove"

tell him - nov 74
new york groove - oct 75

therefore it's nov 74 and killer queen promo
That's my opinion too becos their appearance obviously coincides with the Hello release 'Tell Him'. I've done some research (about a year ago) into this in the past, even writing to Bob (Hello's singer) about this. He says he can't ever remember being on the same show as Queen and that he would reply in more detail later, as he was on tour. I heard nothing so wrote again but although I got another response from someone managing the site, he never did respond.
These were the only two singles that charted in the UK by Hello and Queen's appearance can't coincide with New York Groove release for obvious reasons (Bo Rhap).  Games Up never charted in the UK and therefore wouldn't have been included on TOTP. Which leaves 'Tell Him', in terms of timing.
However, I also think this is a European pop programme but possibly a German one. I say this because of the Hello connection again: they were huge in Germany and even relocated there when singles failed to chart in the UK. Queen were touring in Germany in early December 1974 (4 dates). So could they have done German TV with KQ at this time?
On this short two and a half week tour they also played single dates in other countries (Gothenberg, Helsinki, etc) but I know that Tell Him charted in Germany, so I'm going for that possibility
[QUOTENAME]brENsKi wrote:[/QUOTENAME] yes. i'm sticking with my first idea re: Killer Queen and "HELLO - "Tell Him" - the time/dates fit correctly. as regards Top Pop you are right. On the old vhs of that (that i had)  freddie is wearing what looks like a fake fur jacket. also there are more coloured lighting however, to muddy the waters further (sorry) - found this http://i.ytimg.com/vi/2ZBtPf7FOoM/0.jpg  from a Killer Queen promo - same studio but different clothing for all of the band...weird and here's the link to the video - think it could be the dutch tv show top pop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ti2P_z5IPw another different Killer Queen promo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq4r8XPbTik and as the original photo uses the same stage layout...maybe it is "now i'm here" on  top pop?
This video : Was aired on November 27th 1974 on the Top Of The Pops. It was later released on the 2VHS set of Greatest Flix and on the Greatest Video Hits DVD. This video : was shot sometimes during November 1974 (does anybody know the exact date ? ) at the Dutch Avro TV for the show Top Pop and the best quality version can be found on the Japan TV show usually distributed as "Live Jewels"

The second video appears in its original PAL format on a VHS tape I have entitled Rock Idols (Video Gems). The only info given on the back is Glenwood Music Corp.

There is a copy on ebay

If you look at the actual cue sheet download from the thread below I think you will find it was filmed on 22nd November 1974

We have discussed these pictures a few years back here (unfortunately I cannot search my postings before 2007, were all posts losts???) .

The drumskin of HELLO, and the BBC TOTP database (http://www.bbc.co.uk/totp2/videoclips/classic/     - the searchable database is NO longer available! ) offered the exact date and match with Queen's performance on the same day.

with a bit of luck i have found the topic i was referring to from 2005...

21th Nov 1974, Killer Queen.  + Hello .

and the original database (song/date/show presenter/studio performance/survives?) :

Seven Seas Of Rhye 21st February, 1974 Emperor Rosko Performance
Seven Seas Of Rhye 14th March, 1974 Noel Edmonds Performance
Seven Seas Of Rhye 28th March, 1974 Dave Lee Travis Performance
Killer Queen 11th October, 1974 Paul Burnett Performance

Killer Queen 24th October, 1974 Dave Lee Travis Performance
Killer Queen 7th November, 1974 Jimmy Savile Repeat Performance
Killer Queen 21st November, 1974 Noel Edmonds Performance
Killer Queen 27th December, 1974 Noel Edmonds, Dave Lee Travis Performance Yes
Now I'm Here 16th January, 1975 Noel Edmonds Performance
Now I'm Here 30th January, 1975 Tony Blackburn Perfomance
Now I'm Here 13th February, 1975 Noel Edmonds Repeat Performance

A few weeks ago we discussed the ITV Granada Killer Queen legendary lost appearance ("45" or "rock on 45'" with Kid Jensen),  just to refresh here are some details and a pic of the stage with ABBA, with Queen's gear in the background, wall of vox ac30s and Roger's drumkit

http://www.abbaontv.com/1974/description-45.html

edit: at the time when the database was searchable, I did cross-search for the Hello appearance, so its definitely 21th Nov and not the other 2 unknown dates (11 / 24 Oct )

The 3rd picture can either be 11th or 24th October, or one of the Now Im here performances. Sometimes there are  people here who can tell which song is played by looking at the guitar chords etc...

I  have just watched the only TOTP  show that survived from January 75 (2 Jan), and it features both stage design elements from the linked Queen pictures - so by comparing the stage setup to similar or close date performances doesnt help either, it can be October or January as well.

I wasnt aware that 3 Seven Seas of Rhye "reared" its head. Does it matter if QP has it in there collection now? We wont see it anyway in my lifetime...

someone wrote this on another forum, about the 3rd SSOR performance :

"On one particular show which I have on cassette, Dave Lee Travis was interviewed giving his thoughts & recollections. I have just listened to DLT's interview again and during this he says, quote, "I have to say that Seven Seas Of Rhye by Queen, I must hold the record of being the only Disc Jockey in the world to have gone up on stage with Queen wearing a brown duster coat and carrying a broom and sweeping the stage while they were performing it and that was a great moment on Top of the Pops and I have got that on video somewhere and it was really quite funny"

So GT, does QP have this in their archives now, or are you going to contact DLT, since he was claiming having a copy of the show?

update: soemone told me the 'broom and duster' version is in the archives, but it came too late to feature it on GVH1. Yeah at least that was said during a Q&A session on QOL by GB.

"This has caused a problem for a long time now.

The first two pics are from 1974 but nobody seems to know where the photos were taken. Myself, Greg Brooks, Jim Jenkins and Ratty can't seem to decide where it is from. I thought it was an unseen 'Killer Queen'....but from where?"

Well if all the above bigshots fail next time, you can always ask me . I gave you the answer in 1 hour . I apologise for the lack of modesty haha

The two different stage designs both feature in the Jan 2 1975 TOTP show.

edit: i was trying to copy and paste pictures here but did not work

Thank you Miklos.....this is excellent information.

Regarding the Seven Seas of Rhye 'DLT'' version, I can confirm that this does exist.  DLT comes on the stage during Brian's solo brushing the floor and then points the broom at Brian before clashing it with the red special on the end echo section of the solo. He then leaves the stage with the brush over his shoulder leaving Brian grinning like a cheshire cat!!

This is in the archive but was obtained too late to add to video hits 1. I presume that it will be used in the future on some project.

Hello were not really "huge" in Germany and they were rarely seen on TV - although more often than Queen.
First time I ever saw Queen on German TV was the clip of Bohemian Rhapsody in some afternoon show, whose producers later did that German tour special 79 with Thomas Gottschalk.

No idea about these photos but they don't look like a german studio setting of those days. We only had "Disco" and "Musikladen"......
