I've been a fan since 1975 and have been fortunate to see them twice in 1979/80.
With Freddies' passing there is never going to be a singer to really do what he did-he was and still is a one-off.
Whilst the recent incarnation of Brian and Roger with Paul Rodgers was good in one sense, it was a line-up I was never really happy with.
Any future line-up would have to include John Deacon, anybody else and it isn't quite there.
As for a front man?
One who proved he could do something in this respect is George Michael.
No doubt it has been suggested and thrown out for whatever reason-but it's the only conceivable combination IMHO which stands a chance to come anywhere near what was.

......... I wish Brian would hurry up and make some music. Roger being involved would be a bonus, but it's like this - I remember listening to Another World and thinking "fuck, the axe man is back". It's got his best singing on it. Above all I remember thinking "the next one should be great".
And where the hell is it? Come on Brian! Take a leaf out of Gimlour's book, give us something like "On an Island". Hurry up, none of us are getting any younger. ***************************************** (Damn quote function isn't working for me. Meh. Anyway, next is my reply).
Totally agree. I'd welcome an EP from Brian, if nothing else. Surely the man has more to say (and sing) musically. I think (and hope) that he's got at least an EP left in him.

Since Another World, I think Brian put most of his focus on Furia, The Cosmos Rocks, producing Kerry Ellis, making guest appearances on others' songs, getting his PhD, working on the Musical and getting a few Q+PR tours in. I'm not sure when he'd have time to do too much recording, but who knows, maybe he's recorded a few tracks at Allerton Hill over the years.
Remember, though, that after Made In Heaven, Brian planned an album of covers, titled "Heroes." The plan was record a bunch of new covers and use the few he'd already recorded for other things:
Slow Down Maybe Baby Marie's The Name (His Latest Flame) Only Make Believe FBI Hot Patootie All The Way From Memphis One Rainy Wish No One But You (as a tribute to end the album)
And possibly others.
He changed his mind though, after recording NOBY with Queen, realising he was looking backwards instead of at the here and now, so he rethought the solo album and made it about the work he was doing at the moment, having written and recorded a bunch of songs for other projects:
Business (for "Frank Stubbs Promotes" series 1) Cyborg (for Rise II video game) On My Way Up (for Frank Stubbs S2) Another World (for the film "Sliding Doors")
Plus three of the aforementioned covers and a few new songs inspired by his travels ("China Belle") and feelings of rediscovering his solo identity ("Wilderness," "Why Don't We Try Again," "Space").
In short, Brian doesn't appear to sit down and say, "I'm gonna record meself a solo album!" but rather looks at what's going on in his life and plays off that.

By the way, can "new work" also mean a QUEEN + TAYLOR HAWKNS complete album ? I readt that he had plans for Queen.... But I think I also readt that Foo Fighters could start working again on a new album....
********
at least to me, that would be AWESOME. I´m deeply in love with Red Light Fever and I´m sure Taylor Hawkins and his musical aproach could estimulate Brian and Roger enough to deliver a fresh and solid album, including some of the trademarks we all missed in TCR .... that can be found in "Your Shoes", "Way Down" and "Don´t Have To Speak".
I think Hawkins´ plans concern live work with our guys ... wich is also good !! I hope some day they get together in the studio, though ... but yes, it seems work for a new Foos albums has already started, so this would delay the whole thing.

Micrówave wrote: Spot on. It's going to take someone outside to produce the new Queen sound. Only the die hards want to hear just Brian/Roger/John, a vocalist is also going to be required. Plenty of bands can bring in another singer and continue working, but you can't leave control in the hands of just one or two founding members... it won't work.
But it probably just means Brian is re-recording some parts for a Queen Rock Band application, which will be distributed by Universal. The Beatles estate is making more money off their Beatles Rock Band than their new remasters, which are beautifully re-packaged. It's a shame, but video game income will far surpass anything else "new" Queen can offer. I don't think there's enough demand for a Queen: Rock Band to be half as successful as Queen: Rock Band

Huh?
You mean Beatles Rock Band, well obviously. But I think Queen or ACDC or Van Halen Rock Band could make those bands a nice chunk. Unfortunatly Brian Oblivious May doesn't realize that AC/DC and Van Halen have kept plodding away, thus keeping demand for their product up, while Queen's shivers away with unwanted Box Sets and Greatest Hit compilations.

I don't agree that the theme was love. Rather I think it was a combination of love, looking back at life and marvelling at the beauty of the world. As such, I don't think any of the songs failed to fit in with the concept.

While it's possible "Teasin' Around" was on Brian's list for cover songs to record for "Heroes," the version that appears on the Japan-only release of Good Rockin' Tonight was recorded for that collection, I believe (circa 2001, after "Heroes" was scrapped and Another World released). He's been asked over the years to record on tributes and doesn't appear to turn them down:
Hot Patootie = recorded with the NSO Rocky Horror cast, of which Anita Dobson was a member, for their soundtrack album.
All The Way From Memphis = Recorded for Moth Peot Hotel, a Mott The Hoople Tribute album
One Rainy Wish = recorded for In From The Storm, a Jimi Hendrix Tribute album (a different mix appears on Another World)
FBI = recorded for a Shadows Tribute album
Bored one day, I put together a travelling CD of the Queen-solo covers:
The Great Pretender (1992 Malouf Mix) - FM Hot Patootie - BM Maybe Baby - BM FBI - BM Only Make Believe - BM Marie's The Name (Demo) - BM Keep A'Knockin' - RT Teasin' Around - BM Slow Down - BM All The Way From Memphis - BM One Rainy Wish (In From The Storm Mix) - BM Foxy Lady - The Cross Racing In the Streets - RT Masters Of Wars - RT Keep On Runnin' - RT Working Class Hero - RT Since You've Been Gone (Live at the Brixton Academy) - BM Rollin' Over - BM

That's actually a good compilation. Might put it on disc for the car. I would add "Runaway", "Tutti Frutti" and "Jailhouse Rock" though.

"Runaway" hadn't been recorded at the time, but I'd certainly add it now. I also left "I Wanna Testify' off, because even though it's credited as a cover, it really isn't one. The songs are nothing alike, except for being a bit funky and sharing a title.

Pim asked it before, but what was Brian's exact quote regarding this?
Hutchence · Member since
"Queen - wise, we have some very exciting plans. For a group who lost their singer aeons ago, I guess we are not doing too bad! I know the news about our amazing new record deal has been leaked. That's first time in 40 years that we've uprooted ourselves... and it was not without a huge amount of thought and care. But we will be making a proper announcement about this toward the end of the year, together wit details of our new enterprises! I can tell you that they will involve studio work, computers, and live work! Well, I suppose that's not much of a give-away! But at least you know that we are on the case!" - Brian

sounds promising for 2011/2012....................................

Promising indeed. My early post in this thread was made before I re-read the news about the Universal deal motre thorougly. It appears to only affect the UK territories, so Hollywood Records won't be affected in the US.
