Suggestion for a new "project"

Since the sharing section of this forum is basically dead for several months, I want to suggest something to you all.

Let's share EVERYTHING.

I want to start sharing one or 2 concerts every week, every will be the BEST source I was able to find during the last 10 years, or a COMPILATION of the best sources. The concerts will be chronologically ordered, and will be shared of course in FLAC format.

Well ALMOST ALL concerts would be shared. A small number of recordings in my collection is labelled as "RARE TRADES ONLY" or even "NOT FOR TRADE". I don't want to break the promises I gave to the persons who gave these recordings to me, so I will definitely NOT share those, but the original owners are strongly encouraged to share those themselves :-)

But there are several problems with my collection.

1. QUALITY
- I'm not sure if my recordings are in best available quality, just a quick comparing with http://www,queenlive.ca/ shows alternate sources which I don't have and they are either better, and/or more complete.  It would be ideal if OTHER people who have these alternate sources or upgrades to the recordings which I can provide, would SHARE THEIR COPIES. Or even uncirculated recordings ?

2. SPEED
- many of the recordings which I have are still running in incorrect speed, usually too fast or too slow. I have fixed most of them already, but I didn't touch the recordings which are in so called "good" quality - I have "remastered" only (almost) excellent sounding recordings. I know that there are people here who can correct the speed / pitch . I used to do it myself when I had time for it, but now it would be great if SOMEBODY COULD CORRECT THE SPEED on these recordings.

3. COVERS
- It would be really lovely if EVERY existing audio recordings would have a proper disc label, and cover, maybe even a booklet ? Are here cover artists with enough free time ? I know that Alex Solan and Vali created a lot of great looking covers in the past, but they're pretty quite these days :-)

4. PHOTOS / STORIES etc.
- Just look at this thread : http://www.queenzone.com/forums/1226425/a-couple-of-hopefully-interesting-facts-about-knebworth-1986.aspx - it's now full of fantastic stories from people who were at the Knebworth concert. Wouldn't it be great if people who visited some of the concerts would share their memories with us ? Even some new photos would be great.

So ,,, what do you say ? If I start the sharing, will people help me with at least these 4 points ? I think EVERYBODY would gain something, what do you think ?

Great idea.
With so many different sources available this is what's really needed to weed out the quality from the naff. ;-)

Thanks, gents.

I planned to share everything from Golders Green Hippodrome '73 to South America 2008, so you will probably need to buy a second and third external discs :-) Also I don't have many of the solo shows, so also that part has to be taken by somebody else.

BTW both Davids - expect mail from me later today :-)

I would help uploading things I have including solo shows...Only problem is I am far from the audiophile that you all are and don't keep lineage or anything like that.  I scour for what I can find and then stash it away.  and i have some flac, some MP3...to me it was more important to get SOMETHING than nothing...and I will be glad to get some of it all in flac for once but yeah...I'd say take the ALL Dates from the queenconcerts.com or whatever and go from there (starting with 73 if you want and then just move forward with each date posting the request for what everybody has (maybe every wednesday or something and then we decide who is uploading on friday or what not and then a new one posted every sunday with whatever is decided)

I don't really collect the live stuff, mainly because there is so much I woundn't know where to start. However I think the idea of a project is great. This place has been very quiet lately, I think we need something to liven us all up a bit.

It's been beautifully quiet lately.
Downloading, burning & cataloguing discs takes SO much time.
I've actually relished not having anything to download from here lately and it's given me time to do other stuff.

I'm in.  I'd say we should keep this thread going and do it chronologically from beginning to end.

For instance, have a look at 1973:  http://www.queenconcerts.com/collection/downloads/1973.html

I have slight upgrades of Oxford (a merge of 2 or 3 versions of the audience tape) and Bristol (a lower gen copy), and I can post them here.  Any other thoughts for upgrades?

Further thoughts..

Surely it mustn't be too hard to track down audience masters of a few dozen more Queen shows, at least.  Zeppelin collectors regularly track down tapers from 1969 and 1970, so there should definitely be enough Queen collectors who are resourceful enough to be able to find tapers from 1973 and later.

For starters, what we need to do is get in touch with people prominent in the Rush, Bowie, Who, Zeppelin, and Floyd communities who have engaged in open dialogue with tapers and collectors devoted to spreading the music.  Waiting for tapers to turn up on Dime and The Traders' Den is great, but surely we can speed up the process by doing a bit of digging ourselves.  This is what led to things like the Portland 74, Boston 77, and Seattle 77 masters emerging in the last few years.  There are plenty more out there.

Great project!
I'm willing to spend some time on designing a few covers, I will stay true to the original Queen designs or at least make them look professional. If the content of the CD/DVD can be put online as tekst (dates, tracks etc.) Would be very helpfull.

That's the perfect idea, then we don't miss any concerts.

Well 1973 ...

Golders Green Hippodrome, London - I think my merge is the best available thing yet, or is there a better one ?
Liverpool - well the master copy can't be made any better, can it ? :-) But Stark's master sounds also good
Oxford - I have a merge of 2 sources, but it has a gap in Hangman and runs too slow. Kurgan shared an upgrade of the soundcheck, but I'm not sure if he shared also an upgrade of the concert ...
Manchester - I have "Opera House Rock" - is there a better version around ?
Birmingham - I have "First Procession"
Bristol - no idea if my copy is best or not ...
