Suggestion for a new "project"

Surely it mustn't be too hard to track down audience masters of a few dozen more Queen shows, at least.  Zeppelin collectors regularly track down tapers from 1969 and 1970, so there should definitely be enough Queen collectors who are resourceful enough to be able to find tapers from 1973 and later.

For starters, what we need to do is get in touch with people prominent in the Rush, Bowie, Who, Zeppelin, and Floyd communities who have engaged in open dialogue with tapers and collectors devoted to spreading the music.  Waiting for tapers to turn up on Dime and The Traders' Den is great, but surely we can speed up the process by doing a bit of digging ourselves.  This is what led to things like the Portland 74, Boston 77, and Seattle 77 masters emerging in the last few years.  There are plenty more out there.
Also, it'd be great if some Queen-fans who recorded Queen join in. Maybe there are people on this forum who know such Queen collectors??

Also, it could be a great idea to upload all those shows to dime and make contacts there. I'd be willing to do that too (it'd help my bad ratio too;-)

fantastic Peter; this is what QZ needed. Great idea. The sharing section .. you said it, has been dead for so long.

You have my support for anything you need

Very nice idea, it surely will revitalize the forum! Surely I could help upload recordings for this awesome project.

I recall it the other way around - here's the show he shared, but I can't find the soundcheck - http://www.queenconcerts.com/collection/downloads/1973.html

"Manchester - I have "Opera House Rock" - is there a better version around ?"

Doesn't seem so.

"Bristol - no idea if my copy is best or not ... "

Maybe you can post a sample.. ?

At the moment the only pending upgrade is Oxford, and I'll post that soon enough.

Can I suggest that if people are going to randomly upload stuff as part of this project, then the subject heading should reflect  that it's part of this project: Perhaps "Ultimate Queen Live: --insert concert dates here--", for example?

Hi, 've been extremely busy last days preparing for an unplanned and very long business trip to Germany, but I'll post a sample soon (together with all the other stuff you wanted)

If "people" "randomly" "stuff", who cares what the subject heading should be ?
If "collectors" "generously" "new source/better generation", why they need you to tell them how to name their posts ?

Aristide1, I actually agree with you for once.  People can do their own research to see if a particular version is the best one.  Or they can even ask in the thread if it's the definitive version.

Cool, thanks for the sample.  This is the best version I've heard yet, as there's a lot less tape hiss.  Feel free to share it !

Excellent idea, I'm definitely in.

I have started a project of an index along with Marco, and so far we have compiled something for year 1973 and 1974.
it would be presented as in the Word document that you can download here :

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I7PRYLAF

Up to 1975 only at the moment, with all the different sources and versions around in existence, both audio and video.
We have included links to the related shares on Queenzone, and you can notice all the versions and sources that have not been shared yet.

What would be interesting to do before uploading anything is to check if all the information included is useful and accurate, and if it is correctly organized. After that, we can discuss each date and see what comes out of these discussions.

Do you think it is better working that way ? Please have a look at the following post and include your comments. I'll be glad to participate to this ultimate share, but we need something to definitely decide what each version worths compared to others.

Thanks a lot to Marco for his excellent work on that project, and for the various Queen fans who created interesting websites concerning Queen live.
If this index is useful, we will continue working on following years, and every helpful hand is welcome, just tell me so and we'll share work ;o)

Regards,

Olivier,
Belgium.
