Which footage was better looking?

Not sure if this has been talked about but:  Did the original "We Will Rock You" version of the Montreal 1981 footage look better than the "Rock Montreal" version?  I feel that it had nicer colors, not necessarily more clarity, just nicer tones than the "remastered" version.  what do you think?

IMHO, Rock Montreal pisses all over We Will Rock You in terms of colour, clarity, definition and sound, especially the Blu-Ray version.  I absolutely love Rock Montreal, it made that show much more exciting for me.

Agreed.  Rock Montreal absolutely destroys the old Mobilevision versions, as they cleaned up every single frame.  ~30 fps x 60 seconds x 90 minutes = ~162,000 frames.  I can't imagine how much work went into it.  It's probably the best quality we'll ever see (and hear) for a Queen concert, unless similar work is done for Budapest some day.

Giving equal weight to Thistleboy and Sir GH, I can only conclude that We Will Rock you was destroyed by Rock Montreal pee.  I'll adjust as necessary for any future superlatives.

And seriously, watching Rock Montreal for the first time on Blu-Ray actually made me tear up.  For real.

We Will Rock You - 2001 edition had far superior video, Queen Rock Montreal had much better audio.

QRM ruined the colours absolutely, they look incredibly "random" and seriously bad. Also the heavy noise reduction was done carelessly, which gave the video a "plastic" look on many different spots.

Also the editing is different ( I would say worse) . And here are some comparison pics :

In other words - it's the worst remastered celluloid since the terrible 2004 DVD release of Star Wars

Peter, every time I try to open the above link I'm told the page can't be found, so I can't see your comparison pics.  Is it possible for you to paste them here or re-link? Thanks in advance!

I just checked back on the 2001 We Will Rock You DVD release to compare with the Rock Montreal Blu-Ray and I still say Blu-Ray is better.  I feel as though Queen are in my fuckin house with that on, I really do. It is the single most impressive piece of footage released by Queen, and to add to Bob's sentiments, I really hope the likes of Budapest gets this treatment, it totally revolutionised this show as far as I'm concerned.

Confession, whether GF is joking or not, I actually welled up when I saw the RM Blu!!!

exactly! i felt that the colors (which can be seen in the comparisons) were really changed, for the worse.  The audio is fantastic, but the film's tones and just overall look, was kinda ruined.  I don't think all of the editing was bad, but some of the cropping could have been improved upon.

Wow.. unreal.  I stand corrected.

So it's not a complete improvement then..

But the original (2001) was too dark!

thats something that could have easily been corrected.  just leave the colors as they were and should be.

I should just rip the audio from Rock Montreal, then synch that with We Will Rock You's picture!

I'll bootleg it! lol

Slightly off-topic, but did anyone else keep their copy of the 2001 WWRY release after QRM came out? I did, just for the Saul Swimmer commentary. It's amusing now listening to him compliment the band, while Brian and Roger's commentary totally tears him a new one. How often are we going to get two completely opposing sides of the same story?

As for visual quality, the 2001 was pretty impressive at the time, but I prefer the QRM edition.
