You must be so proud.

LOL

You're an idiot.  Nothing special about you at all.

If you being an asshole on a Queen discussion board is all you've
got going on in your life, then that's either pathetic or incredibly funny.

That's nothing!  You're not even counting my alter ego, Sir GH.

You can get back to your Amazon/Zebonka circle jerk now."

Right, whatever you say. Coming from you, these are compliments.

Like living in your dead gay friend's house and having 3 of his gay friends hate your guts.

I finally got around to getting that book.

And my thoughts regarding Mary - She gave 'em three months to move out. It could've been worse for 'em - like, "Get out by tomorrow".

Jim was alright really, though I can see people's issues with him, telling the personal stuff. But hey, people bought the book, as did I.
Seems to me, he couldn't get over Mary's decisions.

But all in all, like someone else said here - It never altered my view of Fred.

I know the topic was a few years ago but I wasn't here then.
I apologize to anyone who doesn't like to see old threads.

As I said in some other threads, I like the book very much.
I see that some other discussions have been conducted in previous years. My intention is to talk about a book (of course, if someone wants it) because there is a thread about it.
If there is someone who likes (or not) a book and wants to talk about it, I would like to discuss it a bit.

To begin with, I would single out some funniest parts that made me laugh:
-In Japan,Freddie wanted to wear a new shirt, but it was badly creased and Joe and Jim managed it with a metal hot-plate.
-When first time Jim drove Freddie in the Volvo to the studio.
-When Jim brought a kitten and wanted to hide him, and his tail was sticking out from under his jacket.
There is more this, but this came to mind first.

By the way , is the text of the book available on-line? Like in pdf or something?

I think Jim lived in the fictional world when pairing Freddie,
He persuaded himself that Freddie was love of his life and that the feeling is mutual.
In fact, Jim was just live-in sex partner with creative mind and competence in doing household things e.t.c.
And he was naive, warm-hearted and generous as Mercury himself, Kinda Soul Brother + trouble-free lover.

In the other hand it was'nt Freddie's blame of treating his live-in mates and esp. Jim that way.
He understood clearly he could not have heterosexual family or proper gay one.
So he built likeness of a family instead. And the basis of this likeness was only his memories and imaginary notion. It's hard to judge was it for good or bad.

Yeah, me self had great deal of laugh with this. Also, can remember some other funnies:
- the search for hibachis in the little japanese antiques shop. Jim was on his knees on the floor, and grabblin' trying to find the vase that Freddie wanted on the shelves.
- First (and second) Jim's meeting with Bowie (in barber shop) and on Live Aid that day.
Think the whole japanese part was more fun then the other chapters dealing with routine life and descriptions of illness taking over.
Oh, maybe except paragraphs where Montserrat Caballe had been mentioned! :))

Because is Freddie's birthday today...
Jim in book describes several birthday celebrations. I'll mention this one:1986,then he gave Freddie a ring and later was Mad Hat party.

I've heard the book as a salacious invasion of privacy.

As to him being pissed off with people laughing and getting drunk at the 'wake' - I can't think of anything more appropriate for a man who was a lover of life, Heineken and Vodka.

Happy Birthday Fred!

I found an old hard copy at a used bookstore and loved it. Great pics. I also downloaded it to my kindle, it is available on Amazon.
