Don't expect too much. Take a look at what has happened in case of the Rolling Stones.
The regular albums were re-released without any extras and even no new booklets were added.
And now one by one they come up with few special releases like "Get yer Yayas out" and recently "Exile on Main street". And considering the wealth of existing material they were very reluctant to release too much extras....

In case of Queen Universal will very likely go the way of offering the regular catalog first with little extras. So that they will still have enough material for later releases.

They - and the same goes for Queen - will always keep something in the back. Imagine Queen had allready given all Outtakes and archive stuff to EMI. They would not have been in the position for a big deal with Universal.

Soundfreak,

That's as may be but, and this is all kudos to QPL for being aware, they would have been well aware of the state of their existing contract and negotiations for a new contract would have been well advanced some time ago with EMI in order for QPL to then be able to approach other labels to take them on.

Now, either EMI have a good idea about the interest in Queen in the market and decided that Queen weren't worth investing any money in, or, more likely IMO, QPL believed that they were worth *FAR MORE* than EMI were prepared to put on the table given that they have an untapped archive at their disposal and negotiated elsewhere.

Either way, QPL hold the upper hand as they so often do and leave us hanging on their every release for something of interest to suddenly appear - I reckon this is their very last chance.

I was just listening to the 180g vinyl release of Queen II and I must say it sounds soooo clear!
Were these new vinyl releases also remastered?
If this was the case, then perhaps they will simply release those remasters.

Although I believe mastering for vinyl is different to CD.

All I want is a four disc clear vinyl box set per album, where each disc is one-sided, 45RPM, 200gr, remastered ofcourse.
Than that same remastered album on CD.
Plus 2 discs worth of outtakes.
Plus a disc with instrumentals of the album and unreleased stuff.
Plus a disc with 5.1 surround sound mixes.
All in a luxury box, autographed by RT, BM and JD.
Numbered.

Just imagine having 15 of those box sets sitting on your shelf :D

It shouldn't be too difficult for labels to be creative if they bring me on board.

Check out the latest Paul McCartney & Wings' Band On The Run reissue by Universal.

It has 3 options to buy:
1CD (album itself)
2CD+1DVD (album cd+bonus stuff cd and dvd with related video stuff)
3CD+1DVD (same as above + audio documentary CD with hard cover large book)

So the Queen reissues also can be released with 2-3 different options for each album.

Oh fuck NO! - the completists out there (myself included) would feel compelled to buy all the available options.  Not good for the pocket lol

The list you posted originally wouldn't work either, IMHO.  The best thing to do would be to release 2cd sets for each album, one having the remasters and the other having demos.  There would be no need for singles and b-sides as we got this in 4 volumes and  I also agree that any DVD should be separate.  Live stuff should be included in a live boxset.

But it is all just fantasy.  We are never going to get anything remotely near that.

Not in the last place because each would have to sell for $100+, which is even assuming that there is material to fill all that.

I would even buy that if it was $200!
Heck I bought Peter Gabriel's Scratch My Back deluxe box which was $299 which only had a record, 2 CD's (which can be bought separately as well), a fancy USB stick and some 'interesting' inserts.

Surely they can release at least one big box for ie ANATO? Even Bowie's Station to Station had a deluxe box with not that much interesting contents. Or The Who's Live at Leeds...

I'd happily fork out $200 for a ANATO box:

- New stereo mix on CD
- 5.1 mix on DVD-A
- CD of Hammersmith
- LP of original stereo mix (200g)
- LP of Hammersmith (200g)
- DVD of Hammersmith
- Replica of ANATO-tour programme
- Replicas of original 1975 promo/presskits
- Artprint of original ANATO/BoRhap tape, as was included in the Absolute Greatest box

It's all about making compromises... it's either buying all this stuff or going to the movies, see friends, being social, buy (expensive) clothes and... well.. live :D

I prefer the first one :)

Universal have advised a release date of the 14th of March for the first batch of re-issues.

On this basis, I’m really surprised that not one piece of information has leaked out with regard to the “additional content”. Not even a hint……

Whatever’s been going on behind the scenes, a substantial amount of work will have gone into the extra content, right down to the liner notes/sleeve design. Given that no official announcement has yet been made regarding the details of the extras, I wonder if it’s a case of those involved being sworn to secrecy or merely down to the fact that this has been/is still a work in progress?

Someone somewhere must have an ‘in’ on this, the release date is approaching quickly.

Cheers,

Keith.

It seems release date will be post-pointed for a month as always :) Let's hope it won't.
