I bought The Miracle upon release in 1989...I was very excited by what I heard.  I also thought AKOM was an improvement on The Works upon first hearing it...it seemed to have a little more "color" and vitality to it.

Truth be told, I place The Works, AKOM and The Miracle as my least favorite Queen albums, I LOVE them but they just don't compare to the rest of their catalog.

When first listening to Innuendo on day of release, I hadn't felt that kind of exhilleration since The Game.  The Miracle was a bridge to that return to quality...so I rank it a bit higher than AKOM.  In retrospect they are about even.

As far as the last poster saying that he can't "get into" Innuendo, well that's hard for me to understand as a Queen fan...but, y'know...to each their own. ; )

P.S...."Rain Must Fall" is one of the better songs on The Miracle IMO.

innuendo and A kind of Magic arn't Even.  Innuendo was the their best since The Game,   Maybe even Jazz or News of the world.   Rain must fall is one of my favorites from the miracle too.

Mike...no...what I meant was that The Miracle and AKOM are about even.

I absolutely agree that Innuendo stands shoulder-to-shoulder with their '70's work.  Sorry my post was a bit confusing.

Not confusing,  I just misread it.

They shouldn't have bothered with trying to make a real 'album' out of the Magic tunes.  The end product was just lazy.  The fact that something as woeful as "Pain is So Close to Pleasure" got on there is basically screaming the fact that they were just desperate to get an album out the door.

The Miracle has its share of dud tracks but at least they were trying.

Zebonka....very good choice in words to describe AKOM.   I also felt The Works sounds a bit "lazy" also.  The Miracle is obviously an album with a LOT more effort put into it with attention to detail once again being a priority for the band.

As far as the much-maligned "Pain Is So Close To Pleasure" I always thought it was a song that was intended to be a hit by the band...obviously it didn't happen.  In other words, I don't think the band viewed songs Like "One Year Of Love", "PISCTP", and "Friends Will Be Friends" as filler...I think they designed them to be hit singles.
