wow double wow
i always searched on youtube for videos of people trying to emulate Queen keyboard/synth sounds (specially if they have "how to"), with pretty much of zero luck. this is awesome :D
Youtube is full of videos of people emulating Pink Floyd's Rick Writght sounds. It's very nice to finally find someone who does the same for Queen keyboard/synth sounds. Anyone knows more youtube users doing that for Queen sounds?

TobyBarnett wrote: Thanks! Just remembered, the M1 piano features quite a bit on MiH as well (Let Me Live/Beautiful Day). Still, the One Vision string sound mystery is unsolved! Could've been anything tbh
I'm sure if the fan community can keep pursuing this research, we'll eventually find at least some sort of a reasonable answer :-)

..here's the Korg M1 demo :) It's the software version, using the DX7 as a controller.

I'm sure I've missed some out, but these are the sounds that came to mind!
'Universe' - Don't Try So Hard
'Symphonic' - DTSH/Bijou etc.
'Strings' - DTSH
'Choir' - Slightly Mad
'MagicOrgan' - I Can't Live WIth You (at about 3:06)
'Stratos' - reminded me a bit of the ending to Untitled, on MiH
I probably missed a bunch of them out, and this is just card on for the M1 :)
Wow! Did you really get these sound with Korg Legacy M1 Software synth? In that case, I need this machine too. Wow again!
You've been doing a superb job with this. Do you know if by any chance, there is a possibility to get taht WWTLF - intro sound separately to load it to another machine? Or is the only way just to buy the real thing?
I have to explain: we are playing with a Queen tributeband, "One Vision" in Finland and our keyboardist is using Roland Fantom X6. Of course, if we could be able to get that DX7 sound uploaded somehow to his machine that would make things lot more easier than just bringin two keyboards... But I guess this isn't possible...or is it?

@ploughman Thanks! Yep, they're on 'card' 1 of the Korg software. I guess it's just how the real synth comes!
As for the WWTLF, I'm not familiar with the Fantom x6.. but I'd guess it's not just as simple as loading a particular sound. Although DX7 patches can be used with some software FM synths, I doubt any current keyboard would read the data.
Just a thought.. if the Fantom allows short audio files to be imported directly via usb, it could be possible to use a DX7 sample (I'd happily provide some), to play back using the keyboard.

@ploughman ..actually, it may be much simpler... if your keyboardist has access to a laptop + audio/midi interface (m-box or something similar), FM8 (Native Instruments software) is a virtual DX7 and the original DX7 presets can be loaded into it - sounds identical :)
Hope this helps

Thanks! I've found some syx-files for DX7 and the Legacy Software seems to be a "must-to-buy".
I'm still thinking of using a laptop and playing them via that, or do you think sampling will give a good result? If we should sample every key separately will it still be as good as the real thing... I mean all the velocity and all?
ps. Did you check if "Low Orch" preset really is the one they used for Show Must Go on? ;-)

@ploughman , This is the closest I got with the 'low orch' Korg M1 patch

Not perfect, but pretty close! I'll pm you some more ideas for WWTLF

Queen's Keyboard Player Spike Edney - Behind the scenes with the KORG Kronos
Hi everyone, I'm an avid Queen fan and keyboardist forming a Queen tribute, I really want the Who wants to live forever DX7 sound, i have a laptop in my rig so am going to purchase the FM8.
Where can I download the DX7 presets?

the slightly mad sound is the third sound, I think
OOH/AAH
The only way to make it sound like the song is to play it with a "hard stacatto" if you know what I mean. THEN it's the song, otherwise it doesn't sound so convincing
As for the show must go on, I always had my doubts about this song being played on a M1 but the closest I've ever got was the STRINGSYNT patch, adding strings to the combination and tweaking the attack, release of the notes and overall reverb. I got pretty darn close but it makes me wonder, as 99% of the other sounds are not modified at all... why would this one be so "hidden"?
But it's not a DX7, that's for sure. The opening progression from I Want To Break Free is, for example. But those had to be heavily modified for sure.

Well, what do you know? I read on wikipedia's KORG M1 article that the preset they used for The Show Must Go On is Orchestra and I found out that though it may not really be that one, it's much closer than anything I've tried before. The ORCHESTRA 1, that is. You can find it in the COMBI sounds. I tweaked the cutoff a little, the attack, release and the annoying massive reverb and it sounded very very close to the original. I'm guessing this is the right one, maybe with a little more work.

Just a comment. Nothing much to add for the discussion.
