What song(s) would you replace the Impromptu with? I wish Queen didn't cut Somebody To Love or It's A Hard Life after the Works Tour. I wanted them to survive for the Magic Tour!

I have always hated these things, and always skip them on CDs/DVDs. They could easily have replaced this with an early 70s track, since they had already revisited Liar and KYA, another 70s effort would have fitted. I suppose, as it is yet just another piece of Freddie indulgence, they could maybe just have popped a Made In Heaven or IWBTLY in there instead. Just a thought....

Those things were fun for the band and for the audience that was there.
So it's great, when a band does something different in a concert to make it special.
The only thing I might critisize is, that they did not dare to bring in a third chord.....that might have made it more exciting for the "bootleg listeners"....

Good to see you back after some time on the board. Do you know if there are any soundboard recordings from the 1985 Australian Tour in the archive? or better.... some small filmed parts?
I know there is some footage of Radio GaGa that was broadcast on TV with Molly Meldrum and on Rare Live. Any more facts to let the zoners know.

I love how together the band are with Brian mimmicking Freddie's vocal impros beautifully. Admittedly I generally only listen until Bri does his 'Beatles' riff. But those first three minutes gloriously illustrative of a band who are sewn into each others' pockets!

A good sample of enormous versatility of the band (mainly Freddie`s versatility I think) and of course a good sample of extended range of voice.

The Radio Ga Ga footage from Sydney is the only full song from this show. There is also the beginning of the show, Tear It Up and the band walking to the stage.
The only other officially filmed video from 84/85 are from the two nights at Rio and the Tokyo concert from 11 May 1985.
There are no soundboard recordings from the 1984 European shows.

Really, it's one of the best impromptus I've ever heard.

The Queen "impromptus" are a good example of the type of thing that works well live that doesn't translate well when listening to dozens of bootlegs from the same tour.
U2 does a lot of stuff like this, where they throw in snippets of other songs and billions of references to the city they are playing in to give something a bit special to the audience... but gets grating when listening to a bunch of recordings.

Because of the Record collector magazine article and because of the fact that a band as big as Queen did not record not even 1 performance during an entire tour... (not even a dry soundboard....?)
