I don't think anyone can, or should, judge whether a fan is a decent fan. There are songs that most would like, but I don't think anyone 'should' like any song.

Hang on Amazon ... "judging" was not intended.  Relax.
The use of the word "decent" had no villain in it (I assure you), but was likely the wrong word
choice if it bent your feathers out of shape.

@CB5000  I mean't no offense to Fariy Feller's Masterstroke (which is also a favorite of mine) - however
there have been previous threads in QZ where it has turned up on the most Embarrassing List and the 7 worst list -
which is certainly NOT my sentiment (I think it's genius!!).  So considering those few low viewpoints, if it were to be against the grain to like TFFMS then count me in (way in) !!!!!!!!

I'm not saying Freddie shouldn't have written it or that it's a terrible song, I just sort of cringe because of the subject matter and execution do nothing for me. I like cats, too, but it's a little too on the nose as Freddie serenading Delilah that I can't find context for it in my life. It doesn't spark my imagination (music or lyrics) and it doesn't lend itself to be universally applicable, like "All Dead, All Dead." If it were about a person, maybe, like "Layla" (or a million other odes), I could relate. If it rocked out, I could ignore the lyrics and appreciate the riff.

I won't fault anyone else liking it, I just don't, really.

In the past there were songs I didn't like as much as others (side 1 of Hot Space didn't get played for a long time after I bought the record), but I found researching the works and understanding the context brought a greater appreciation. I could related more as a result and that opened up my view.

I always thought Delilah was about Mary Austin. Until now!  Finally all those 'strange' lyrics fall into place. Thanks Rhyeking  :-)

Isnt going against the grain what most fans do anyway?

Usually when people of bands make a 'my favourite 20 songs' or something, it's never usually filled with hits. A hit might get in there begrudgingly at number 20 but 1-19 are usually a list of the most obscure (relatively) songs from the earliest albums of possible smattered with a couple of unfinished demo tracks that are about 30 seconds but which the author insists is their 'best work ever'.

That's just how these things work, isn't it?

Yeah those were the lyrics that I could not fit into place. Anyway they could have a ' wild' sexlife during their years together or Mary was incontinent

For 2 or 3 years I thought that "Delilah" was about a girl, but that was because I didn't speak English back then. When I learned I realised .

Anyway, I like "Delilah" not because I think it's a good song, but because it reminds me of my childhood and the time I listened to Queen for the first time.

I love Save Me, and I also really like Rain Must Fall. In fact, The Miracle is one of my favourite 80's albums.

I'm not a big fan of the Innuendo album, as it's far too cold for my liking. I also don't love Spread Your Wings, which I used to be obsessed with. However, I now find it a little condescending. I prefer Who Needs You. I also don't love We are the Champions (although it is a great song), and my favourite Brian lead vocal is Sleeping on the Sidewalk. It's Late bores me.

I'm not a massive fan of Who Wants to Live Forever, which I think it perfect for Idol, but is too slight for my liking. I love Friends Will Be Friends.

Some of the Roger songs, such as I'm In Love with my Car, don't do it for me, and all in all, he was my least favourite writer.

I think that Hot Space is an extremely underappreciated album, and I really enjoy it due to Freddie.

The Works is my least favourite album, followed by A Kind of Magic.

The Prophet's Song is my all-time favourite song, although I don't think I'm alone here.

I'm a big fan of Jesus, which is interesting as I'm Jewish! :D

I love that Freddie put on a girl's voice for Brighton Rock, however the guitar solo is too long IMO. I think that Brian is better when he's short and sweet.

In Only Seven Days is both my favourite John song and my favourite love song.

I don't particularly like It's a Hard Life, while Keep Passing the Open Windows is my favourite song off The Works.

Rain Must Fall hold such happy memories for me. Cool Cat is another that I love.

My Baby Does Me I find very embarrassing.

Cool thread.

OK, here goes a couple of mine....

I really like Rain Must Fall.  Always have.  The track on The Miracle I never thought much of... that everyone else seems to adore... is Was It All Worth It.  I don't hate it, just think it's eh... OK.

So there.
