i agree with this post. i said somehting similar in the queen re-issues thread.
i quoted nick mason who said as much as they're not chasing mega cash-ins, the immersion set is not for the casual fan...it's for the serious fan...and they're not producing them in great volumes

as i said before
queen want to be taken seriously? then stock sucking off the likes of 5ive, blobby-williams, beyonce and the pepsi crew, mcbluebottle et al....

if queen want to be considered as a serious band then treat their fans the way serious bands do...all of this list have produced "deluxe/limited/re-issue/anthologies etc" that put queen to shame

wouldn't it be nice to see queen in the esteemed companty of:
beatles, pink floyd, bowie, springsteen, rainbow, purple, and many many more who treat their serious fans nicely

I completely agree.  But I don't think there are nearly as many serious Queen fans as there are for those bands.

Most Queen fans will say their favourite album is "Greatest Hits".  Some music history books even state "Greatest Hits" as one of the three key albums to check out after SHA and ANATO.  Queen have been a singles band for 30 years.

Maybe if they did break up after The Works tour, things would be different..

I think I'm going to get the Dark Side boxset. Anyone got it yet?

I did post something about this the other week. U2 are also doing a simila boxset for Achtung.

But yes, QP should take note and either do this for the albums or look again at the Wembley boxset.

I've ordered all the Pink Floyd boxsets. Can't wait.

Not all Pim, you still need to order the Discovery box. I can take a picture of my copy if you want me to :D

Do you have to be a stoner - or at least have heard Pink Floyd whilst under the influence of drugs - to like them? Each to their own but it all sounds very, very boring to me?!
A beer does seem to help them sound even better.

I'm seeding a few DVD bootlegs at:

Check it out for lots more Floyd.

Pre-ordered the Dark Side and Wish You Were Here Immersion sets the day they were available to pre-order... The Wall one isn't worth the cash, in my opinion.... especially since I already have the live album... which doesn't need remastering at all.

I considered the Discovery Edition Box - but I honestly cannot listen to more than 50% of their catalogue... I already have the remastered Piper... the only other ones worth getting IMO (to satisfy my musical tastes) are Saucerful, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Animals (which should have an Immersion edition) and the Wall.... and maybe Division Bell (lots of great cuts on that one).

Finally - I can't see any Queen releases that would be able to properly pull this off - the only one would be A Night At The Opera... and it would be rehash of what's already available:

Disc 1 - The Album

Disc 2 - Hammersmith Xmas Show (this would be the Gem)... but they'd put bits of Live Killers, The Bowl, Montreal, Wembley, and since they have a whole disc to cover - Paul Rodgers live versions!!!

Disc 3 - Demos (this would be key)... but they'd put single versions, non-segue versions, previously available remixes and instrumental karaoke versions, and maybe even la-creme-de-la-creme brand spankin' new edits!

Disc 4 - Blu-Ray lossless DTS-HD/PCM Lossless 5.1 Mix... but they'd put compressed DTS DVD Version (Wembley 25 justifies this comment)

Disc 5 - DVD of Making of the album - already released with certain 30th anniversary edition copies and standalone...(Classic Albums version)

Disc 6 - A brand spanking new interview CD with Brian and Roger discussing the album...And then we realize that it's just the Audio Commentary on the "Videos" of the Night At The Opera 30th Anniversary DVD....Can't wait for this one! lol

Conclusion: No need for Queen Immersion sets... just give us a bloody Anthology box already!!! Like the Beatles did in 1995/1996.

While on the subject... http://www.neptunepinkfloyd.co.uk/index.php/news/674-pink-floyd-week-on-late-night-with-jimmy-fallon-us That's how you promote yourself in the US. Not by doing a friggin' talent pageant! V.

I've never even had a joint in my life and I love the Floyd.

Here's a tip: get "The Dark Side of the Moon", isolate yourself in a room, sit comfortably, take out the lyrics booklet (or print them out), put on the CD, turn up the volume and read as you're listening.

If you've never heard it before I envy you - the first time you hear "Dark Side" in its entirety is an event akin to the first time you drive a car or the first time you have sex. And it never quite sounds the same as that first listening.

I'd accuse you of over-selling, but ... you're not.

It's one of the best rock records ever made, and indeed, there's no better way to listen to it.

The first time Rick Wright played it for his wife, she apparently cried for an hour because it was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard.

Cut yourself off from the world, put the wall on and listen to it, absolute masterpiece.

To a lesser extent you should also watch the movie, I re-watched it for the first time since I was 14 earlier this year, I’m not ashamed to say comfortably numb made me cry because my granddad had just died and the lyrics reminded me of his last week when they were filling him up with morphine, he was drifting in and out of consciousness and he lost the ability to speak.
I also cried a song or two later when I realised they let bob geldoff scream his way through two of my favourite songs rendering the lyrics inaudible gibberish.

It clearly doesn't have the same effect on everybody.
The only thing I remember about the album is that I wasn't impressed with it.

Having said that, I'm glad that people who enjoy it have the opportunity to enjoy it even more. Good for you!
