I'm still wondering if he's an actual person or a paid propagandist with a script of talking points.

You can bet that Michelle Obama has already picked out the new curtains and silverware.[/QUOTE]
Even with the current troubled climate there are probably insurmountable forces that favour the incumbent. I think it would be enormously difficult in the end for the requisite number of people to turf America's first black President, who still maintains significant personal popularity, after one term. I think that may be some of the reason for the lack of a really stellar candidate. Romney's running essentially by default and Gingrich I think genuinely sees himslelf as a transformational change agent at a defining point in American history. Anybody unburdened by establishment expectations or somewhat grandiose visions has probably been wise to bide their time until 2016.

How can you compare Gingrich to Stalin?  That's just irresponsible posting.... if that's the point you're trying to make here.

That's pretty far-fetched. Nonetheless, this may get interesting..

Not quite awake yet Bob?  He's clearly trying to point out that his Dad didn't serve in 'Nam so he'd have to pay for Juan's health care.  And on a family website!

No, I'm pointing out that I am IN FAVOR of urinating on nominees.

And that Grateful Fan is taking a pot shot at my Dad.    Nice.  Any other dead people you'd like to pounce on?

Yes!  Please let me know when Juan dies.

Also: I didn't mean to be disrespectful to your dad. I'm sorry if that is what I ended up doing, or if I was insensitive. Really.

Finally, I'll note that  you've got about 10 different people trying to have a real conversation with you across a couple of threads here.  Between the arguments you pretend aren't arguments, the obtuse non-sequiters and now, the guilt trip - well it's all been a bit of an unfortunate waste of time.

Like. I've. Previously. Said...WHAT do you expect from a stepford Republican like Microwave here?

A little more coherence than I've seen this last page or so.

As to the Republicans, I seriously haven't a clue what they are doing now that the election-year has started. The only thing I'm sure about right now is that no Republican candidate is going to make more than a few Repubican voters very happy. The only real question is how many Americans would grudgingly vote for a B-President to get Obama out. I'm hoping for a degree of sanity.

Gotta agree with you, TQ.

And they've had THREE YEARS to invent someone worth a grain of salt...

I would probably say Romney is the best choice.  He only paid 14% income tax on 6 million dollars last year and is not in jail.  We need someone that can do that with our debt with China.  If he could pull that off, we just might kick start this economy after all.

I've got to hand it to you, Micrówave, sometimes you do make me laugh.

Romney is the only one in the bunch who stands a chance. However, I don't see the Tea Party voting for a moderate Mormon.

Read an intersting Gingrich profile just now...an old one from 1984 published by Mother Jones, a liberal magazine.  It is fairly unforgiving, and rather fascinating.  And it raises the theoretical question in my mind again about character and personality and how that relates to electability to office vs. proficiency once one gets there. Newt won't get the nomination, and he likely shouldn't, but will he not get it for the right reasons? How and why and in what way does character, for example, matter?  What if what makes you good at campaigning makes you bad at leading, or vice versa? Newt of course is just an example - the conversation (should one materialize) could be had around any candidate.

If Gingrich is the Republican nominee, I will throw my vote away on some 3rd party candidate.

As far as I'm concerned, it's 3 strikes and you're out for the ethically challenged Gingrich:

1 - Lobbying as "a historian" for 1.6 million $$$ in favor of the disastrous policies of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
2 - His propensity for divorcing wives with health issues and because they aren't pretty enough to be 1st lady.
3 - Gingrich's Congress resignation in response to $300,000 fine and ethics charges.
