But this begs the question - why would this 1989 Record Collector magazine advertise a Capital Radio transcription disc of the show as being for sale (or at least, existing)
Although there are thousands of BBC transcription discs about, have you ever seen a single one from Capital Radio - by ANY artist?
Capital Radio in 1976 were a local (London) independent FM station, a far cry from the BBC.
If you pay to put an advertisement for your Saturday market stall in Record Collector, I guess you can claim to have pretty much anything in stock.
The aim would surely be to draw in the punters, and it probably did just that.
A bit of an urban myth by now if you ask me, all thanks to that one solitary advert that keeps cropping up.
The guy who placed it probably still has a good laugh about it down at his local.
.......and don't even get me started on the claim made about Hyde Park by the ''Archivist'' in his 1995 novel.

Assuming Capital Radio still have that recording and it's in good shape, then QPL have no excuses not to release the full thing on video with a stereo soundtrack.
Of course though, that precludes them making overdubs which means they'd have to put it out unadulterated....
Never mind a stereo, they have the multi-track. It was proudly on display at the stormtroopers exhibition. Brian could overdub till his heart's content!

If they had the multitracks for Wembley first night they didn't bother to use them for the DVD release.

The understanding is that they don't have a complete multitrack for every song, hence all this talk about us getting an edited highlights version one day.

I was of the understanding that it's the footage that's the problem, not the audio.

Who knows what is true? Jacky from the fanclub has said that at least parts of the video are not usable... Other sources claim that there's an issue with the multi track.
The reality is: if the really want to they can at least release a great audio version of the show.
If the folks working for the Beatles can make the Hollywood Bowl show sound way better from only 3 track tape and lots of wizardry then the same is possible for Queen at Hyde Park (with waaaaay better results!)
They just opt for the easy route, kinda spoiled with all the great stuff they have.

The Hollywood Bowl show was iconic..
and it wasn't that easy.

That's why I wrote "and a lot of wizardry" ;-)
Hyde Park '76 is pretty iconic too! When QPR played Hyde Park in 2005 it was a news item on Belgian TV that it was the first time the band playing there "since their historic free concert in 1976".

With the right people, everything is possible. Maybe QP should not depend on the same people every time. Hire a true expert and get some sh*t going.
It's a disgrace that an iconic band like Queen has such poor live releases (with the exception of Rainbow 1974).

I keep showing people the Hammersmith '75 cover and they genuinely can't believe it's an official release.

LOL - understanding from where? That's clearly nonsense - along with the claim that both Earls Court recordings are plagued by the piano vocal mic not being recorded. Just utter nonsense. In a live concert setting, they don't record songs one by one - so either, the claim is completely bogus as with most claims from QPL/Brooks or they've lost one fo the tapes. Depending on the tape legth and recording speed, it may have even fit on one tape. The tape/s would have been instantly duplicated at the time too.

"Or they've lost one of the tapes..."
If that's the case, then they don't have the multitracks for each song, as I suggested.
Dick.
A single 2" 24 track tape, running at 15ips, will hold about 30 minutes of audio. So Hyde Park would have needed 4 separate tapes?
Nowadays it's common practice, from what I've read, to run 2 seperate Pro Tools rigs to capture everything. But in 1976 probably one mobile (The Fleetwood mobile truck perhaps) would only have one multitrack recorder?!
Mind you... what happens when they have to switch tapes? Obviously between songs...
Anyway... it's entirely possible that at least one of the multitrack is missing...
Hope this helps? *winks*

Difficult process. Time consuming. Most likely very costly as well... But was it worth it? Hell yes. We'll never get an official Queen product that has undergone this much restoration and care - simply because nobody whose 'say' matters enough, cares enough to make it happen.
