The subject for this torrent says it is 1080i (as in "Life Must Go On 1080i mkv"). But when I play this download in VLC it says the frame rate is 25Hz, this normally means progressive scan ie. 1080p25. The original .ts that Pittrek started from was 50Hz (assuming it is the same as what I have), so during re-encoding the video it looks like this has been de-interlaced. I've got nothing against this (assuming the software did it properly), it's just not what I was expecting given the subject of the thread. I haven't had chance to play the two versions and compare them yet.

No.

I didn't intentionally de-interlaced it, I kept it interlaced in the settings. So unless there's a bug in Handbrake which makes automatic deinterlacing it should still be interlaced. BTW if I remember correctly it appeared interlaced when I was watching it via VLC, but I can check when I come home

It could be a bug in VLC simply reporting the wrong thing. VLC is one of the less stable and reliable bits of software around.
EDIT: If I force VLC to de-interlace on playback the video goes all juddery.

Well I'm checking it and the video looks interlaced to me. Strange. Do you have any software which will tell you definitely if it's interlaced or not ?

Not to hand no. All I know is that in VLC selecting Tools -> Codec Information says "Frame rate: 25" whereas for the original .ts it says "Frame rate: 50". My Freeview HD box won't tell me either.
I agree that something looks a bit interlaced about it watching it, but if I tell VLC to forcibly de-interlace it the playback goes all juddery.
What is needed is some mkv diagnostic tools. There must be some around somewhere.

Anyone on here have the HD Edit version of the video: Queen + Paul Rodgers: Return of the champions??
If so, could be shared?
I hope can be possible
thanks beforehand.
