I think there was an interview with John Deacon in the GVH II video (in the making of Breakthru video) where he said that although the band members worked closely together, they did not socialize after work or visit each other's home.
I have been told that in England you do not visit a person's home unless you are invited.

"John abandoned Freddie"
He was (and is) probably slightly emotionally retarded when it comes to loss because of the early death of his father. It's most likely that he simply didn't know what to do with the situation.
Then he should have grown a pair and made sure that his dying friend knew that he cared.
I have heard rumors that John had a nervous breakdown. I don't know if this happened sometime after being told that Freddie had AIDS or after Freddie's death.
By John's behavior it appeared that he was more upset with losing his job.

Brian and Roger visited Freddie at Garden Lodge before his illness and after his illness.
Brian and Roger have implied that John was really the odd man out.

he doesn't need you to like him. any by you i mean anyone.
my way of thinking is that people don't like you for who you are.. fuck 'em.
Also, I don't need to warm to John Deacon, just like he doesn't need to warm to me... we don't know each other.
When's the last time you had a beer with Brian and Roger?
It's not an unusual response to emotional stress for many people. Also there was still deep fear and quiet hysteria surrounding HIV and AIDS even in 1991. As a husband and a father who knows what internal and external pressures he felt to limit his contact. Given the times and the fact that they weren't close outside of the professional unit I'd have some sympathy for that.

John was just a very shy person, you could see that when Queen gave group interviews and when they were on stage and there is nothing wrong with that, if he wants to sit at home and not be famous anymore thats upto him imo

My point of view:
I think that at first John enjoyed the success in the band, but he soon found out that being a public person was not making him happy. He liked recording music and touring, but being a star was not all that important to him.
During the '80s the band members sort of went their own way in several solo projects. John didn't, not being able to sing was on of the reasons for that. John spent time with his family, i guess he could've been somewhat frustrated with the bands inactivity.
John worked with the band on "The Miracle", "Innuendo" and "Made in Heaven". We do not know what his relationship is and was with Freddie, Roger and Brian. A few years after Freddies death, John decided that he had enough of being a musician and retired.
The thing you could blame John is that after all the years he did not say goodbye to his fans in any way. No interview, no final show, no farewell. After that he could've made his statement in the Days of our lives documentary but still there was no word from him.
I hope he is allright, he seemed like a nice guy to me, who accidentally became a member of the biggest bands ever. I think he was important for Queen, the calm reasonable guy between 3 quite big ego's.
