actually she was reportedly the enabler in their relationship...
BUt that may just be a rumor within the Bobby camp... which means it was probably 50/50
Either way i feel bad for her daughter. I saw a recent string of Prince O(+> gigs at the Forum in Inglewood (11 of 12 gigs) and Whitney showed up to get her way onstage on a night when Chaka was opening...
it was less than impressive, a lot of screaming.. she seemed haggard and tired. I felt bad for her, but she was there with her daughter.
Not a doubt she felt a lot of the sting of what "she'd become" from what "she was" and that probably led her on to do worse.
Sadly, i'm expecting this is some kind of fluke tragedy. only possible drug relation would be a "muscle relaxer" (common for people after 45 in the US) and bad timing with her bath...
if not.. then everybody will be saying "i told you so"

I don't see Whitney as a victim of Bobby Brown really. From interviews she's given in recent years, as well as through the train wreck of a reality show "Being Bobby Brown", it's clear that she sought just the kind of relationship she ended up with. She stated directly that as a young and independent woman in control of a massive career she actively liked Brown taking control on the home front. The classic mistaking of a thugish, insecure bully for a truly strong man that has been the downfall of many before her and many to come. She's not the first woman to get fascinated with that kind of man and turn up lost, but it took her way too long to extract herself, and even then only because he was being blatantly and serially unfaithful, not because he was an irredeemable 40 year old punk. Hitting bottom is such a long ride when you're wealthy and insulated by fame. So much was squandered. It's sad.

She really squandered God's gift to her. RIP Whitney Houston.[/QUOTE]

the list is f*cking endless...so why say she really squandered? like she was somehow different
all of the above brought about their own end....

I was just talking about her specifically. If there is any implications that she was more special than the others in your list, it is not intended, and who can be more special than Freddie, of all people.
The reason for my feeling that she squandered the gift to her is that she damaged her voice through drug abuse. Her voice is the obvious talent given to her and the reason for her existence in the music industry.

How did Duanne Allman and Bolan contribute to their deaths?

How did Michael Hutchence contribute to his death? Be descriptive.

It's really not a tragedy. Just so you know, normal sober people can die in bathtubs, and have done so before.

Well, you go one way or another... Michael was using a doctor to lift him up and put him down since the HISTORY tour...(as evidenced by his disclosure that he heard about "princess diana's" death via his doctor on tour)
However, his doctor in this instance is responsible for his death. clearly. neglectfully. The 3rd degree burns and the adrenaline rush of staging and rehearsing 8-14 hours a day made sure he could hardly sleep. (another reason he HATED touring)
As far as i'm concerned the only way he squandered his art was to chase popular trends. If he'd done an acoustic album of stuff, backlash, anger, love songs, jokes.. it would have been considered a change and great.
John Entwistle went out the way he wanted to... he didn't SQUANDER his art either... he kept touring with unpopular formations of his own band, and appeared on many others' works. My favorite being Glenn Tipton's BAPTISM OF FIRE album
He checked out with high dollar call girls (hookers) and blow. He was simply too old to keep up with it...
If he was lucky....he went going while he was coming.
(bad joke)
always heard Marc Bolan's death was an accident,
However Freddie's lifestyle led to his death of course.
Either way, however soon it was, approaching 50 isn't considered squandered. They left a huge mark...
Oh and BTW
Courtney killed Kurt or had him killed... just read the tacked on words in someone else's writing on the alleged "suicide note"
he wanted to quit music cause it wasn't sincere for him anymore. i think his writing was probably a note to a music magazine saying something akin to retirement.

And bowie stopped touring... plainly... probably so he won't die on tour.

i never said "Bolan" - you need to learn to read - i typed "Bolin" as in - Tommy Bolin - Deep Purple guitarist and heroin addict
as for Allman, sorry ok if you want to be pedantic - riding like a loon on a motorcycle isn't a specific self-induced death - but it was reckless....what i actually said was that they "brought about their own end"...i think i was right on that point

Freddie damaged his voice in the 80s...thru smoking (another drug)....you gotta have seen Queen live in the 80s to understand the change in his voice...so your point about Whitney wasting her talent is what exactly?

Ah yeah, well then chalk up both Randy Rhoads and Paul Kossoff (great singer/slinger of the axe) for "fucking around with a drunken pilot and crew" and Kossoff for drugging it up and weakening his heart.

It would be a bit of a stretch even in a Jackie Collins novel. The whole scene seems exceptionally sad to me. Nobody wants to die in indignity in a hotel room and have their body hauled out the service entrance. It's just sad. I'm repeating myself, but I can't find a better word.
