She really squandered God's gift to her. RIP Whitney Houston.
no more so than
Freddie, Kurt, Elvis, Amy, Janis, michael jackson, duane allman, hendrix, moon, bon scott, entwhistle, bolin, bonham, hutchence, lynott....zzzzzzzzzzzz
the list is f*cking endless...
all of the above brought about their own end....
I was just talking about her specifically.
The reason for my feeling that she squandered the gift to her is that she damaged her voice through drug abuse. Her voice is the obvious talent given to her and the reason for her existence in the music industry.
Freddie damaged his voice in the 80s...thru smoking (another drug)....you gotta have seen Queen live in the 80s to understand the change in his voice...so your point about Whitney wasting her talent is what exactly?
Freddie could still sing and they had a successful tour in 1986. He did not want to live after he could not sing anymore due to Aids. Yes, Freddie also squandered his talent but he did not know at that time that his activity could bring about AIDS. At the time when Whitney took drugs, there was already a lot of information about the effects of taking drugs and Whitney Houston could choose to stop taking drugs.

This thread is about Whitney Houston. My post is just about her. I repeat: any implication that she is more special than other people is not intended.

You need to learn to be polite. So I misunderstood you, big deal. You don't have to act like a jerk.

Oh, and there isn't much of a difference between contributing to one's death and bringing about one's own end. Not that it matters, since this thread is about Whitney Houston, and tcc has every right to say what he said about her, irrespective of whether other artists squandered their talent as well.

Thank you Amazon for standing up for me.

"Nobody wants to die in indignity in a hotel room and have their body hauled out the service entrance"

To reframe what I was saying a bit : if every death is tragic, then which one is to be considered truly tragic?

It is sad, of course, but sadness can be a pretty deep well and one that I don't wish to get stuck in when you consider the number of bathroom related deaths in the world.

I think it's a pity, anyway.

Looks like another California Doctor will be headed to court. Now we just need to wait and see who it is.

you didn't misunderstand - you MISread and MISquoted me..there's a difference....because when YOU make a mistake it suddenly becomes "big deal", but when YOU mistakenly misread BOLIN and BOLAN you were quick to try and correct me...
appears you were more than happy for people to think that i made a mistake but not so happy when your own mistake was pointed out

So freaking what if I misread you? I made a mistake, so sue me. You're not in a position to jump down someone's throat for making a mistake, seeing as you are far from perfect.

Oh, and I never misquoted you. Don't even attempt to play that card as saying that someone brought about their own end is no different to saying that they contributed to their death (I would be interested in a situation where someone brought about their own end but didn't contribute to their death as that would be an extraordinary story).

"because YOU make a mistake it becomes "big deal","

No, YOU made it a big deal when you said 'you need to learn to read.' You acted like a complete jerk who doesn't seem to understand that people make mistakes. This isn't the first time you pounced on me because (in your mind) I made a mistake. You need to get over it.

You are not perfect, you make mistakes. Hell, you made mistakes on this own thread. So don't tell me that 'because YOU make a mistake it becomes "big deal" .' You could have simply corrected me. But no, you had to act like a horrible jerk.

"but when YOU mistakenly misread BOLIN and BOLAN you were quick to try and correct me..."

Yeh, I asked 'How did Duanne Allman and Bolan contribute to their deaths?'

Wow, what a horrible thing. Brenski, if you think that was me being quick to try and correct you, then you are being over sensitive. You do realize that this is a discussion site, and if I have a problem with something you said, I have every right to say so? If you don't like it, well, get over it.

"waytogo mr double standards"

First, wrong gender. Second, what double standards? Or are you not going to tell me like you didn't tell me what I got wrong in the HS thread (because I didn't get anything wrong)?

Either way, I don't particularly care. Life's too short to deal with people who are incapable of being polite.

No, I wasn't happy with you acting like a jerk.

Let's see what you could have said, instead of '"i never said "Bolan" - you need to learn to read - i typed "Bolin" as in..'

You could have written 'Actually I meant...'

Did it ever occur to you that you could have clarified whom you meant without being rude? It is entirely possible to point out that someone made a mistake without being either rude or triumphant. Or perhaps it isn't possible with you. Either way, get over it. I'm done.

how do YOU know what Freddie wanted? - you are hypothesising - doesn't make you right or wrong, but it certainly doesn't make that statement a fact

and the world knew about HIV/AIDS in late 1982? freddie lived with the knowledge he had HIV for almost 7 years (84-91)...so he knew of the existence of HIV for almost two years before he knew he had it...yet he didn't stop shagging strangers in New York and Germany...surely the rule you apply to Whitnet also applies to freddie equally?

i never said she was more special - or that YOU implied it, i merely made references to comparable instances of celebs (primarily rock stars) who also wasted their talent/opportunity...usually because they either thought themselves indestructable or they were so insecure that they would do/take anything to shut out the trauma of fame...fact is some people are not mentally equipped for a life of fame.

If so, hopefully it won't turn into the circus that the Jackson doctor trial became.

why would i need to clarify who i meant? i typed exactly who i meant!!!!...you shouldn't be telling me what to type...because whatever i typed..you'd still misread it....

I meant, for me!!!

"you shouldn't be telling me what to type..."

It was only a suggestion!

"because whatever i typed..you'd still misread it...."

You know that how? Unless you can read my mind, you probably shouldn't be saying things lie that. Either way, you didn't have to be rude. God, you're annoying!

Yet you keep responding. Pot meet kettle.

This from the person who keeps responding. How hypocritical can you be?

"but you probably misheard what others said"

No, because in my house, people speak clearly and they aren't rude.
