I get the distinct impression here that not many people like Brian.

Must say I was fascinated after the end credits of Mad Max!

This site has really become a place for people to whine while hiding anonymously behind their keyboards. I'm pretty sure some of you ejaculating your usual goo on here will be in the front rows of Knebworth. You're the hypocrites!
bit of a sweeping statement there...summing up many people the same way.
so let me put you straight about me personally (the only peron anyone should speak for)
i will NOT be at Knebworth or anywhere else they tour. i grew up with Queen from 1974 - ok? - i was lucky enough to see queen live 5 times in their heyday - so perhaps i expect more
and for me - the constant "down with the kids collaborations", the pop-idol shit, the hypocrisy, the unending dumping on the legacy (and my memories) is unforgiveable
i'm not here for the new sh*t - i hate it.
i'm here to exchange info, and chat with people - esp about the old days
i'm here to talk about new music
i'm here because occsionally something good comes to light (tho seldom from QOL)
there is so much that QOL could do that would be good - but they don't just look at what the beatles, pink floyd, led zep, purple, rainbow and even the who have done for their legacies....then compare it to queen
ps - i don't hide behind my keyboard
pps - it's all freddie's fault - he called himself a "musical prostitute" and Brian has taken him literally since he died
I think you summed up the mentality of a lot of online Queen fans. They live in the past.
i am nOT living in the past! you're being unfair
let's see how YOU feel when some band you grew up with shits all over your teenage memories by releasing crap collaborations and fuck knows whatever other excrecea they can dig out of the archive toilet bowl
secondly, i already cited what "past" bands have done that's good for their legacies and their fans - as i said - look at Purple, Beatles, Floyd(staggering), who, lizzy, rainbow, ufo, springsteen, bowie and even Dio - they've all released "deluxe editions" worthy of the name DELUXE...queen have ripped the fans off with "noluxe editions" containing stuff previously available in the wild and also in shit sound quality - look at the Queen Online gig downloads - these were mp3 sourced...all of this shameful
thirdly, living in the past? no. i like today's rock bands kings of leon, killers, foos, chickenfoot and more besides...
many of my favourite bands - beatles, floyd, who, rainbow, purple etc are still alive and well because what they put out there is of real interest to genuine long-standing fans
queen died for me in 1991 - because they missed every opportunistic bus that came along and hopped aboard the hypocrisy express

as you can see i've only just joined this forum[and another queen forum too], and i'm really disappointed by some of the things i've read on both.
the overwhelming impression i get from these two forums is a sense of entitlement by the 'fans.'
some people are extremely demanding of brian[haven't read the same thing for roger.....yet.]
its as if brian has to look after all your particular queen wants, and constantly release material thats not been out before.
he and roger have no obligation to you and i as far as i can see.
some of the things i've read have been personal and spiteful, its really shocked me.
brian comes across as one of, if not the most, friendly, down to earth guys in rock and roll. from all the other rock and rollers i've seen over the years, anyway.
he is caring and probably a little bit too sensitive.
personally i don't care if any more queen is released, we all have the best stuff already.
maybe there isn't much left to release, i'm sure theres not a neverending source of new, rare stuff.
i have to admit it annoys me when yet another album of already released tracks is released. i think thats disrespectful to the fans, but i am sure brian and roger don't mean it to be like that. brian doesn't seem like a money hungry man. maybe he is?
he has his own life and its full of all types of different things other than queen. whats wrong with that?
there are more important things to him than people wanting a another version of 'my fairy king', [or whatever track.]
he seems to be ulta-busy and i'm sure he cares for us, but queen isn't his number one thing at the moment.
i just 'don't get' this animosity towards him.

It’s as if Brian woke up one morning and said.
Hey 40 Years? Let’s see if we can lose all
credibility in the next ten years and obfuscate
our memories of who really was the biggest
creative force behind the band. The one who
talked them into having another go at this band thing. The one who brilliantly named
them. The one that designed their logo and
image. Oh and just happened to make them
millionaires by writing their first three hits.
Who was that “one”?
Brian May and Roger Taylor can of course do whatever they like and everyone can of
course "shut up." They can go ahead. What I
won't do is purchase tickets to see some
talent show no-mark add a horrific vibrato to
every note while singing "We will Rack You"
But that's just my opinion.

i agree with appearing on talent shows and getting an adam lambert type singer to sing queen songs, yuck!
same with steve tyler being on that american talent show, not rock and roll to me.

I think you'll find the ones that complain the most are the ones who actually DO like Brian. I've probably ragged on him a lot, and he's honestly one of my heroes. I don't give two shits about his double standards about TV talent contests, and it doesn't bother me that he's into badger fur distribution (or whatever, I see badgers on his Soapbox sometimes).
Purely on a musical level, he makes some clunker decisions and it's only because I love the guy and know he can pull off a way higher standard that I ever sass him on the forum. He's a champ. It'd make me happy if he'd stop playing Put-Put Golf with people like Kerry Ellis and Adam Lambert, and make some serious music. I've had that feeling since David Gilmour's "On An Island" came out. I don't know what kind of waves that album made, and I don't care - I just know that Brian has, can, and still could make music at that level of quality. And I want to hear him do it.
He has different ideas about how to spend his time? Fine! It's not like he has to listen to the complaints. What's the problem?

I love Brian.
He's an intelligent compassionate man. He's also an incredible artist. He's also partially responsible for much of the musical joy and inspiration I've had in life.
That said, I think quite a few people here ridicule him because of his various causes and this Adam Lambert and Queen + thing (basically, they won't give it up as long as they derive joy from it)
Yes, its led to some HORRIBLE "collaborations"...the worst shit being Dappy and 5ive...
But then again I can't imagine British musical culture...I live in the US...you guys like "take that" to the point of godliness... So...apparently I don't know what works out there.
Of course they're blatant attempts to appeal to another audience...crap like dappy and 5ive...the other stuff with Pepsi etc, is basically falling under the category of "advertisment/merchandising"
I'm sure their contracts obligate them to these "new releases" every few years...releases that are the same rehashed (QUALITY) hits..
I admire his work, and his causes. He's aged with grace and shown compassion and also the ambition that taking care of the land is a means of making life "plentiful". It may be an attribute foreign to industry (heavy industry only been around since the late 1800's) and it was a strong concern of most non imperialistic people back "in the day"...retaining the beauty and balance of the land.
With Uranium strip mining and fracking swept under the rug over here, and depleted uranium bombing having gone on, its vital that some keep concerns in the public eye. I don't believe they intend on coming across as preachy...but rather a direct result of graceful ethical/spiritual living. Many wars have been fought simply for resources, and if the man picks up a seemingly 'minor' cause like the fox hunt etc, and a MAJOR cause like AIDS... I admire the man in his other public efforts as well. Drew a picture for the guy when he had a book signing here in LA a few years back; I guess that means he's not hard on the eyes either (in a NoN-GAY way)
Also love his dynamic solo breaks. His inventive use of multitracking (Good Company) etc...
His hair is pretty cool too, glad he didn't change with the fads
----
Having read the others, yeah...I TOO wish Brian was doing more meaningful music than Kerry Ellis (unless he was "doing" something else there...rrrrawrr...nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean? Say no more....:::cough:::shesgotsomecurves::::cough::)
So...yeah, people have a point on that. Haven't heard great stuff since Another World. Iommi, the guest spots on the Foos etc...
Maybe he doesn't think an album would be promising....
That said...his collaborations with rock artists have always been great. Even if it were just that...thered be less room to complain.
I certainly hope there's no intention of reducing credit to Freddie...I think the QPR tours were a gamble to regain an American audience. Paul couldn't convincingly pull off Freddies songs, hence the set lists were geared more towards May, Taylor

it is great that he is putting so much effort and concentration into the welfare of animals, much more important than anything queeny.
that is the REAL world.

I like Brian but he's focused his later years in other interests and not so much into music, which is why most of us appreciate him for. I respect him for finishing his Ph.D. and for some of the social/animal causes he supports but recently he comes off as a whiny old man. He's old now, so I guess that's Ok but I don't feel like celebrating his Kerry Ellis collaboration or his rants about badgers as much as I did when he released Another World, played on top of Buckingham Palace or toured extensively with Paul Rodgers.
The sad thing now is that we should all be excited to have a few more Queen gigs this summer but this will be tarnished by having Adam Lambert there. It's 2000-2003 all over again.
The "Queen+" moniker had gotten some recognition with the Paul Rodgers gigs but now it's back in the mud.
I would feel terrible is these were to be "Queen"'s final shows.

Today I'm more excited about the Queen Extravaganza than the Lambert shows. I sometimes even forget that's Brian and Roger playing live, probably for the last time.

Unless I'm muddling the timeline in my head, they started praising Lambert before they knew about Martel. I can think of two reasons that they're staying the course - first of all, it would probably feel incredibly awkward to reject Lambert for the better guy. They could put whatever public spin on it that they like, but as far as uncomfortable situations go, that one would be worthy of Frasier.
Secondly, Lambert just has a bigger profile. The young dollar. Brian and Roger probably aren't quite ready to forgo that just yet, and history shows they'll do just about anything short of eating shit to get young people interested in the music.
Which is up to them obviously. I just wish John Deacon would mouth off in the press more often, the way he did when that hideous Robbie Williams recording came out. I felt so 'spoken for' when he came out and said that.
In spite of all that, I'm waiting to see if there's any pleasant surprises. Brian or Roger doing lead vocals for anything would make me happy. An unexpected song choice (like when they did Bijou) would make me happy. Adam Lambert not singing like a goat riding a pneumatic drill would make me happy, because he has the range and the chops to at least do a good show, even if it's not to everyone's taste.
