To me they are both great, but speaking from the production point of view, I will go for David Richards. He really was a wizard of sorts. I have to say I hold The Miracle- album in high esteem. Maybe it is not for everybody, but the lush, big and pompous sound really compliments Queen. After all, that is what they really were after all the time. Best example of pure, big, clear and captivating sound from the seventies Queen is A Day At the Races, which they produced with Mike Stone.

But with The Miracle, they really expanded the means of studio technique. Some of the songs were done as a live take, but then combining the lot with sequenced keyboard stufff (for example I Want it All, Was it All Worth It and Hang On in There).

David was a big fan of chorus, lush Lexicon reverb, flanger effects and stereo panning special effects with Eventide Harmonizer. So he really did PRODUCE that stuff and aside that, did a lots of clean sounding recordings and somehow the sound was always very precise...just what Queen ordered of course.

The most horrible sounding to me is Jazz, which they did with Roy Thomas Baker and a mobile studio. It didnt work out that well, allthough the songs are great.

They recorded Jazz at Super Bear and Mountain, neither of which had ever been a mobile studio as far as I'm concerned.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Macks input was very important at the time. He did produce some of Queen's biggest hits. Crazy, Dust,Pressure and Radio GaGa. Album wise sure The Game and Hot Space sure they went more dance music for a couple of albums but after Jazz ( an album i love ) they had to do something different or i am sure they band would have broke up because of boredom. Sure some of it wasn't great but i admire Queen for at least having the balls to change and not do the same thing for 20 years. Also i don't get the constant bickering about The Works, i feel its not just a good Album but a great one , much better than Magic and only The Miracle is better. Both albums combine early glory with 80s production value and there is nothing wrong with that. Each of the producers Queen had, Baker , Mack and Richards was great for at that time . As far as Hot Space goes yes it might be Queen's weakest album but there is several songs on there worth listening to and again it was very important to the development of the band. I enjoy both 70s and 80s Queen equally i always have. Queen's worst is in general better than the best of many other artists. Also, i still remember when Radio GaGa was released, i lived in Germany at the time and it blew me away and was huge. Not everything has to be Bohemian Rhapsody or alike, you want bands that do the same damn thing over and over listen to AC/DC or Kiss. Queen is unique for many reasons in music history and variety of styles is a big one and Hot Space is a big part of it. Shit i need more coffee, Good Day
Works is a good album although it is pretty safe and copies lots of their past. Miracle is their weakest album ever. SOme great songs (IWIA/Breakthru/Miracle/Scandal/WIAWI)-the rest is awful and some of their worst ever (My baby does me /Rain must fall)

I don't understand the love for The Miracle. The production is just awful by and large. Not the whole album but most of it is so synthetic and dated. A horrible 80's synth sound yet so much love for it on here.
5 great songs and the rest is absolute rubbish IWIA was a great single but the album was a major letdown
