Death On Two Legs (2012 Fickle Mix)

I did a mix of this in the dim and distant past, and as the stems have now appeared, I thought I'd update it a bit, so this is a hybrid of the old mix and a new mix from the stems.  There's nothing particularly inventive or radical about this, and it's not as adventurous as PiotreQ's excellent recent mix, nor is this intended to compete with his in any way.  The drum sound is a little different (hopefully improved!), and there's a few little tweaks here and there.  It didn't take long to do, but it was fun, and I hope you enjoy it.  Be quick to download, before Mediafire ban it!

Aw, man... That's just awesome. Your first mix of this was the very first Queen fan mix I ever heard and I nearly fell off my chair while I was listening. I had NO idea that people were doing this sort of thing.

This remix is typically great. I can't really blast it right now but I can't wait until I can. The drums sound good and I love that dive bomb guitar thing on the end. You had that on the last one too. Great ending.

I enjoyed it :-) Good idea with echoes on some of the vocals and the intro is much more scary than the original one :-) Overall, a very good piece of work!

But there is only one little thing which should be fixed I think. The piano at the beginning seems to be a little bit out of key (comparing to the part a few seconds later when the drums and all the rest are joining), for me it sounds a bit too low. Maybe it was sourced from your previous version, no idea, I'm just assuming. But IMO that piano part sounds definitely too low.

Thanks for your comments, Piotre. To be honest. I can't say I've noticed the piano part being out of key. It hasn't been altered in any way from the original, meaning the either the DVD-A or the stems are out of key, if what you hear is correct. As I can't actually hear it being 'out', it would be difficult to fix something that I can't hear is there, but I'll have another closer listen this evening.

Sorry, Piotre, I've just listened again on headphones, and it sounds perfectly in key to me. Are you talking about the 'scary' intro part, or the 'plink plink plink' immediately after, just before the other instruments come in? I honestly can't hear any problem with either.

I'm talking about the 'plink plink plink' ;-) which sounds slightly out of key comparing to the part where the other instruments come in.

Which means that the whole intro part, including the 'scary' bit must be the same, as that was the old mix. The new mix starts with the very first drum beat, so it's where you say the key is out, but I still can't hear it! Aarrgh!!

OK, if you don't mind, I have changed the pitch (+0,2 tones) of the first part till the other instruments come in and uploaded your remix so you can check if you can hear any difference. For me now it's matched. Hope the attachement works correctly.

You might hear slight clicks here and there, it was a quick job, without any volume corrections, just wanted to join the parts and export them very quick, you know ;-)

OK, for some reason I didn't get notifications of your posts, so I didn't see that you'd done this, Piotre, but in the meantime, I've done my own version, and actually lowered the pitch of the stems part, rather than changing the "plink plink plink", as that came from the DVD-A, so I assume that to be more likely to be correct than the stems. I still can't hear any difference myself, but is this any better?

By the way, I think you probably had your pitch changer set to preserve duration. or something similar, hence the little audible 'bumps'. :)

Oh, and just another small technicality - the stems are about a second shorter than the original version, which also suggests that, if anything, the pitch (and / or speed) on the stems could be slightly higher. :)

Yes, it's been 'locked', just wanted to change the pitch only and keep the length as it is :-)

You're right. The stems and the original track might be different and that's why there are disparities between these two sources.
