Hi PiotreQ and Brian Wigs, I followed the advices and uploaded the files in FLAC format. I hope you have a conversor like "FLAC Frontend" or any kind of player.

Here are the links for MediaFire, tomorrow or a bit later by RapidShare:

The five parts are in no special order, they were zipped like that to get best use of space before reaching 100Mb, the upload limit for free accounts.

Blaise, thank you very much for the feedback. My thoughts are similar, SASS is one of the best sounding now (with Save Me, AOBtD or PtG). A Human Body got an important improvement IMO.

As for Dragon Attack... well, this song didn't gave anything but problems, starting the mix from the beggining many times. It was the last song which I finished, and took me over a week to reach a good sound. I like how it sounds, trough is different from the album mix. To me the original snare sounded very flat, and now has more body, and the bass drum was very hitting, and the hi-hat was had too many highs compared to the rest of the album. The stereo feeling was too expanded on the original album song, but mainly for the hi-hat. The drums solo was a bit opaque, anyway, I culdn't change the bucket sound due the way it was recorded. In the original, it gave me the feeling everything was very very loud (like PtG) and in moments killed Freddie's voice or minor details, that's why it may sound a bit narrow. The new sound of the song doesn't kill me, but I like it more. It was a really hard song to mix.

The differences between both AOBtD are the speed and tone. While the extras "original tempo" version is in the same tone and speed that Queen recorded it, the album version was toned 1/4 note up like A Kind of Magic, Scandal and Khashoggi's Ship (trough I think that The Miracle album songs were actually recorded like that). In AOBtD the original recording tone was Em, and then it was raised a half semitone, so it's no Em nor Fm, the tone is between both notes, in consequence, speeded up like in a 2,4%, so the song is resulting album version is the 97,6% of the original one.

Cheers!

Many thanks for the explanations ;)
Out of curiosity, what will be your next project?

Thanks to you for the feedback!

I've been thinking about AKoM, but I'll do it later. Right now I'm working with ANatO, already have finished Sweet Lady and YMBF.

Cheers!

I've been using Chrome for about 18 months, but it's only recently that rapidshare have increased their download speed rates for free users. They were fine, of course, back in January before the megaupload incident, but then when they realised theywere one of the few left standing they played that nasty game to gain new customers (or get back the ones like me who had dumped them a year earlier!)

MATT:
Part FOUR of your mediafire links has been removed by mediafire :(

Any chance of a re-up please?

Thanks :)

I've had a listen to most of these now, and whilst you've done good jobs with the remixes, I'm not sure that there's any real IMPROVEMENT on the originals. That's not to say that yours are bad, but it would have been hard to make what is, in my opinion, the best sounding Queen album, sound any better, without access to all of the full multitracks, and even then, I think only a little bit of 'spit and polish' could really have been achieved. I think what you're doing is great, but perhaps you're starting to change things that don't really need changing, just to make them sound different?

Blaise, I've read your post and done a bit of work on No-one But You, mainly changing that flat snare and lowering down the ultra shiny high sounds (like Made in Heaven song has), and other things.

Here's the link to the song:

Part 4 must be working now, sorry for the delay:

Fickle, I get your point, but to me the album sounds so much better now :) Don't you notice important improvements? Beside is hard to get a good sounding album better, I think it does. For example, some important changes are:

-Play the Game: Sounded very flat and all the instruments were very loud fighting with each other. Now the volumes are more balanced, and the lows have more power. The vocals were re-distributed, rising those that weren't very audible.

-Dragon Attack: Added the shakers as the original recording tapes have as far as I know, gave shine to the drum solo (trough it will sound empty due the way it was recorded), given body to the snare, and more power to the bass. Anyway, I think this wasn't one of the best mixes.

-ANOBtD: Gave shine to the drums without stealing it's dry style, more power to the synths snare fills, less attack and more lows for the bass, shine to the reverse cymbals, corrected some volume issues (like the starting reversed guitar+piano at 1:02), fixed the ending, gave some stereo effects.

-NYLT: Gave more definition to the drums, recovered the missing shine after 1:55, balanced the guitars volume.

-CLTCL: Recovered the missing shine to the whole song, changed the snare sound, eliminated that "bumbumb" marsh sound.

-Rock It: New cleaner reverb effect and cleaner drum sounds, stereo effects to the synths and the guitar solo, cleaner Roger's vocals.

-Don't Try Suicide: Gave more shine to the cymbals, and rised up some inaudible hits, cleaner general sound, cleaner Freddie's vocals, balanced the volume between instruments, gave an ending.

-SASS: Very similar to PtG changes, added stereo effects, changed to a more natural ending, rised up the bells volume, recovered the missing shine and power at the 1:15 explosion, added shine to the acoustic guitar.

-Coming Soon: Gave a depth feeling, more body to the vocals, reduced the marsh sounds, stereo effects to the guitar solo and some things.

-Save Me: Used the recording drums but a with a different mix (more boxy and not so flat snare) and added the tambourine which was thrown away for the final mix, the chorus acoustic guitar and the piano, balanced the volume differences between the intro and the chorus, gave more presence to the backing vocals and the guitars, balanced the acoustic solo and it's multiple effects, recovered Freddie's screams at the guitar solo.

-A Human Body: Killed that marsh sound, given the lost shine to the cymbals, the shakers and the acoustic guitars, more presence for the backing vocals, more body to the snare, some pan wave effects (going and coming) for the lazy main guitar (the one from the intro), and the other guitars in general.

As always, I do this projects for me as a personal desire, so there's no a real definited goal of improvement or any thing that must or not be changed, just trying to get them a sound the best as possible as I can. But I really notice the improvements. This album is very well mastered in it's original form (with The Miracle are the best sounding), but it hides a lot of lost sounds from the old mixing ways, so it can be surprising working on it.

Anyway, I'm really glad you liked the mixes :)

Thanks for the feedback!

To be fair, I'm used to hearing the DVD-A of the album, which sounds awesome, in my opinion, but it's all subjective, and one person's 'perfect' sound isn't always another's. I'm certainly not criticising your mixes - I just think it would be hard to beat the original, on this occasion. I happen to love the original mix of Dragon Attack! :)

Thanks for the re-upload Matt and the explanation of what you've done to each song, but can you believe that minutes into my download, bloody mediafire pulled the file and the download failed :((((

So. Did anyone else get file number 4 that they could upload somewhere please? Thanks.
