See attached pic for why Bond is great.

I have never really understood the hype surrounding James Bond. I really can't stand the franchise at all. My girlfriend's wee boy absolutely loves it (he's 11) and has all the films on DVD. I told him it was absolute bullocks - I mean, really? He's falling off a cliff and his boots turn into rockets and his watch turns into a parachute. F the hell off lol.
It's an action film that's mainly designed to entertain and be action-y. It's not supposed to be entirely realistic. Besides, I'm not entirely sure which film you're talking about, as I've only seen a few, but there's a chance you're talking about a Roger Moore movie, which got somewhat overly wacky and fantastical. Although more recent films may have some plot holes and improbabilities, there's not much as blatantly silly as that.

I believe in Skyfall, when Q ("Quartermaster") is giving his shit to Bond, Q says something along the lines of "You were probably expecting an exploding pen or something. Yeah, we don't really do that anymore."

It was more of a generalisation, not aimed at one of the movies in particular :) I'm just saying how utterly pathetic it all is. I know it's not meant to be entirely realistic, but it is still utter shite nonetheless. Just my tuppenceworth.

Oh, and since he's not a Dr.Who type character who keeps regenerating, why the hell has he had so many different accents lol. He's been Scottish, English, Irish and even Australian!

Apart from that, he even had time to host Blockbusters FFS :) Busy man!

I enjoy pretty much all of the James Bond movies, being a fan of the series, but in reality, only a third or less of them would be considered good movies from a more objective standpoint. From Russia With Love, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Goldfinger come to mind.

Thistleboy - Yeah, you're not going to find anything close to realism in a Bond film, as it's far from the point, so you'll probably be let down if that's what you go into it looking for.

Christmas Jones was the most fucking annoying and useless character in what was already a mediocre entry in the series. Her entire purpose was to serve as the punchline for a lame joke at the end about Christmas only being supposed to 'come' once a year. But yes, she is attractive.

The first Bond movie I saw was Die Another Day and I couldn't understand what was so great about it. Then I gave the franchise another chance and watched one of the Connery flicks and that did not work for me either. So for me, James Bond means "no, thanks".
You couldn't have picked a worse point of entry. GoldenEye was the first one I saw, which I still enjoy, followed by Casino Royale, then the Connery ones.

If you click on the link and scan the page from right to left instead of left to right it's a happy ending all round!
