Thirty-five years after its release, QUEEN's "We Will Rock You" is getting new life as a symphonic mash-up entitled "We Will Rock You VonLichten." The song can be heard during the NFL on CBS 2012/2013 football season. The digital track is available today via iTunes - Smart Link: http://smarturl.it/qvliTuness1
A collaboration between legendary Queen guitarist Brian May and acclaimed composer VonLichten, the new song features Freddie Mercury's original vocal tracks against a backdrop of re-recorded guitar parts and a full orchestral score. The result is an epic philharmonic homage to Queen's classic anthem.
"We Will Rock You VonLichten" was born when VonLichten was approached to create a mash-up of the Queen song and "Posthumus Zone (The Theme to the NFL on CBS)," which he wrote and recorded.
"Creating the track with Brian was easy," says VonLichten. "'We Will Rock You' is the perfect painting. I simply re-framed it a bit." The new track's symphonic elements add a forceful and dramatic accompaniment to one of rock music's most iconic songs.

This first came up about three years ago in early 2010. Fans had expected it for the Superbowl and it never happened. I wonder if it's the same product/mix. Brian said this then:

WWRY AND SUPER BOWL
[See QUEEN NEWS]
Yes, I'm excited. ... I just played some new guitar on a new 'mashup' version of WWRY which these guys [E S Posthumus] have been producing for the Superbowl. It features US, including Freddie's original vocal, an exploding super-giant orchestra, and some great ideas. As far as I know it's not a secret ...
I must have heard a thousand versions of WWRY over the years, but this is the best of them all ... since the original hit the stores on the News of the World album. I do not use the word 'awesome' lightly ... but everyone who has heard this so far has come out with some kind of expletive ! I kid you not - seriously - these Posthumus guys are brilliant. I poured my heart out on guitar ... and the files have now gone back to Franz and Helmut .... I can't wait to hear their final mix. It's got to be done live some day ...
Love

i've heard quite a bit of E S Posthumus stuff - originally from TV - Lost, Law & Order Special Victims Unit & Heroes...all very good stuff
however...the world really doesn't need another WWRY c*nting remix...or does Brian really need the money that badly?
he must've wrote at least 50 other queens songs - and at least 10 queen hit singles...brian - pick another tune for remixing
or do you always want to be remembered as the bloke who wrote a crap song with dozens of crapper remixes?

...am I the only one here who actually enjoyed that quite a bit...?
Anyway, as an American and proud NFL fan, I think it would be awesome hearing the song during football games in the '12-'13 season, but how much confirmation is there as to if that's actually happening? There's so much speculation about stuff that sounds really good in my head but then ends up either not being as great as it was supposed to be or not even happening at all.

It's underwhelming on YouTube for sure. My thought was that I'd like to hear it properly before I came to any firm conclusion. Orchestral work can be hair raisingly powerful but it can also be cheesy and poorly fitted. Not sure on this one yet.

Well it really isn't that exciting. There's a couple of nice ideas in there but, as ever, Bri is utterly devoid of ideas when it comes to contributing his guitar parts. Just the same stock high bends he's been adding to everything for the last 20 years. At least he didn't add any guitar choirs this time.
The worst thing about this though is the mix. It's incredibly imbalanced. The things that should cut through, chiefly the vocals, really don't, and nothing really has any punch. Perhaps, as GF implied, YouTube could be to blame here, but I doubt it somehow.

The headline should be
"BRIAN MAY DESPERATE TO PROSTITUTE HIMSELF - EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE RATES"

As said above, it's sad to see possibly the most inventive and original studio guitarist of all time devoid of ideas. I prefer the version Brian and Roger did with John Farnham a few years ago.

it's about time he picked another tune to "revisit"
fucking musical, fucking rick rubin remix, fucking farnham, fucking jessie j, fucking 5ive, fucking britney, pink beyonce and iglesias,
fucking guns n roses, fucking anastacia, fucking dappy, fucking fatboy slim,
i'm sure that if he was asked to redo any song for a friends funeral procession he'd
pick fucking we will rock you

Sounds like shite, still though with the NFL tie in there is a lot of $$$$ to be had.
