No Turning Back in pretty much 80's B-Movie Soundtrack pop. Not brilliant but suits the movie. (Biggles wasn't a particularly good film.
I would however say IMHO that Deacy is my second favourite song writer in Queen next to Freddie. I think his pop sensibility is second to none. I do agree that if Brian and Roger had their way Queen would only be remembered as a heavy rock band but Johns imput helped set them apart from other rock bands and appeal to a much wider market. On the Days Of Our Lives Documentary you can see the boys begrudgingly and through gritted teeth admit that AOBTD was their biggest selling single ever but songs like YMBF, Spread your Wings, Need Your Loving Tonight, Back Chat, Cool Cat, IWTBF Breakthru, My Baby Does Me and One year Of Love are the Ying to Brian and Rogers Yang. I does appear that Freddie enjoyed Johns songs and would often back him up in arguments. Probably one of the reasons that John has bowed out is he can no longer have influence because he doesn't have Freddie to back him up.
The reality is that the four members working together was so much better than any one of them individually or just two of them (as it is now). Although The Cosmos Rocks was credited to Queen + PR, it simply bore no relation to a real Queen album because it lacked Freddie and Johns imput and subsequently was a poor effort. Although John Deacon was always seen as the quiet one, his contribution to Queen as a song writer should never be underestimated. I just hope he is enjoying his retirement and has found peace of mind after all the years of madness!!!
