Clarification on GB: Queen Archivist

Just to make it clear, as some QZers think that I might be writing threads or replies here under a different name... I'm not. I see no point in doing that.

I only contribute here as GB: Queen Archivist, and the only reason that changed recently is simply because I hadnt contributed anything for over a year and thus when i returned the other day I couldn't recall what password I used before. I'm certain this cannot have been a first on QZ!

I changed to GB: Queen Archivist - very similar to the i.d. I had previously. I can't see that's too unbelievable or unusual.

I originally set up as Greg Brooks: Queen Archivist, by the way, and only changed that because some spiteful knob-ending spammed me with 30,000 mails, otherwise I'd still be happy to use it.

I always write openly under my real name on sites I contribute to. I don't see a good enough reason to hide behind fake names. As I've said before here, I don't know why sensible intelligent people cant be open and honest and have the courage of their convictions, rather than thinking theyre being very brave in what they write, while hiding behind a bogus identity. Thats not brave, that's just unimpressive copping out. One rule for some, another rule for others. That has never sat well with me. It seems so feeble-minded and lacking in spirit and conviction.

I would liken this to one of your neighbours putting a note thru your letterbox in the dead of the night while you sleep.... IF YOU SOUND YOUR CAR HORN AGAIN AFTER 10 PM, IM GONNA PUNCH YOUR FACE IN.... SIGNED ANONYMOUS ANNOYED NEIGHBOUR!!

You'd think, "what a spineless pitiful cowardly excuse for a human!" And you'd be right.

We don't generally tolerate that in other walks of life... 'some' people spouting abuse and/or nasty provocative comment, but being permitted a childish nickname to hide behind, while certain others, like myself and John Stuart for example, are entirely open and 'out there'. You all know 100% fully who we are, but we know you only as faceless anonymous persons.

I wonder why you don't just give each other a Number, and be done with it!!!! Why Pittrek and Lostman, when you could be 65 and 29c? Like a Chinese menu... and equally Ludicrous! What's the difference?

Anyway.... Many of you will continue with your aliases, for good reason in a few cases I'm sure... while you can be assured that I only write here under GB: Queen Archivist, and nothing else. I should have Hero status, really.

So please please... Stop debating "is it the real GB"... It's really not worth getting into. Plus it's irritating after the eleventh time.

Am I not right in thinking that no one else could/can set up a new user called 'GB: Queen Archivist' or 'pittrek' because the QZ system would recognise those names as already taken?

Assuming that's established, then.... If it doesn't say
GB: Queen Archivist on the tin, it isn't me. So feel free to insult and death threaten in the full knowledge that it IS me, really me, and not a sad faceless QZ twat posing as me.... for goodness knows what reasons!!!!

It pays to keep in mind that even though most users haven't got their real names listed on the forum, the regular users pretty well know each others real names. That's what Facebook is for.

You'll probably find that people are judged less by their online handle and more by the quality of their character in places like this. Your drunken, inane rants draw questions about whether or not you're really Queen's archivist mostly because people can't quite believe that a professional would act like that.

Now, you might be inclined to just say "well this is a forum on the internet, I don't have to conduct myself as a professional HERE!" - fine, but really that's no different from having a screen name that isn't your real name, right? Coming here and acting like an ass in a way that you wouldn't in real life - I can see no real separation between that and having a name like 'cornflake warrior'.

(I might use that name from now on).

All I'm saying is it doesn't make any sense for you to get sucked into this forum and then complain about the way it operates. Your display name is ultimately meaningless anyway - you mention John Stuart as an example, and he's a good one. When he's posting something relevant or interesting, people love him. When he rants and whinges about other collectors, people get sick of it very quickly. His name is irrelevant - it's the content of his posts that ought to be taken into consideration.

And as I intimated before, the community basically all know each other anyway - the regular posters at least. We don't need real names on here because it's usually piss easy to find out what they are. You just ask! A friend will usually tell you their name.

Anyway, I hope this issue hasn't kept you up at night or anything because you seem agitated. There are bigger issues in the world to get anxious over.

Welcome to the forum, but beware! AFAIK, somebody could create a very similar username to yours, by simply adding a space either before or after it, like " 871075h" or "871075h ". Other similar spoofs may also occur.

I don't remember who started the topic speculating on you being Jones, but they were the only person who actually suspected that. He's made it pretty clear that this is an account he recently opened because he'd forgotten his old login details.
