2 questions here- why was Las Palabras de Amor included on Greatest Hits III and also why was it never performed live? (apart from that snippet from the milton keynes concert). It would have worked quite well before/after love of my life, surely?

Surely. I distinctively recall practically EVERYONE around me hating it when it came out :P (Queen fans I mean). I was the only one who loved it.

This one just mesmerizes me:

I would have MELTED had I seen it back in `82!

So, yeah, why wasn't it performed live?

Did you see Queen in '82? I agree with you though, it's a fantastic song.

I saw them 6 times in 1981

whereabouts?

I know this is not the same, but Brian sang it at the 2008 QPR gig in Buenos Aires. Absolutely loved it. I can't remember if they played it in Rio the week after that. I don't believe so.

Cheers,

Buenos Aires (all shows) and Rock in Rio 85.

I did not mention the QPR version, since it's not actually Queen and also I assume jpgthfc refers to live versions circa Hot Space or a bit later.

yep Hot Space tour. I knew about the QPR one, but thanks anyway :-)

anyone know about why it was on GHIII then?
· Member since
Coz it wasn't on the others but it was a single?

GHIII was a bit of patchwork trying to get enough tracks to justify another compilation. LPDA fitted the bill perfectly, having being a hit single and not included on GHII. It was certainly more fitting than the likes of Back Chat, Body Language and Scandal. It could've also (deliberately or not) related to the growing popularity of Queen in Spain, Mexico, South America and the Spanish-speaking American population.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

I, too, fail to understand why they didn't perform it back then. That is a great song IMO! They must have thought it wouldn't work good live.

They didn't perform Teo Torriatte outside Japan, even though it's a masterpiece (IMO, it's a hell of a lot better than LPDA), so maybe they didn't find it too relevant to perform LPDA in Canada, America, Japan, Sweden, Norway, France, England, Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland or West Germany.

i think LPDA is a vastly overrated song. the good tracks tend to last more than one tour, let alone one snippet in a a gig or two.

queen were (by 1982) already waist-high in concert ballads/singalong numbers.....

ahh what a pity they did not play it during the 80's.

I remember when i went to see queen + PR in buenos aires in 2008 and Brian said " this is where it came from, from argentina" before he started playing it. It was a great nighr!
